Best Albums Of The Year Lists - CRAZY-HORSE - 24-12-2012

my end of year 'best album's list" for 2012....

these are in no particular order and i couldnt settle on 10, infact i couldnt eliminate it past 14, so fourteen it is....

one album in the list is Rodriguez's "searching for soulman" which is a compilation of his two albums released back in the day, i had to include it because without listening to that one i would never have been a fan.

THE LIST:

1. BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN "wreckin' ball"
2. ANGUS STONE "broken brights"
3. BOB DYLAN "tempest"
4. JACK WHITE "blunderbuss"
5. JASON COLLETT "reckon"
6. WINTER PEOPLE "a year at sea"
7. RODRIGUEZ "searching for soulman"
8. ALABAMA SHAKES "boys & girls"
9. NEIL YOUNG & CRAZY HORSE "psychadelic pill"
10.TAME IMPALA "lonerism"
11.THE BLACK KEYS "el camino"
12.TAYLOR SWIFT "red"
13.FUN "some nights"
14.THE AVETT BROTHERS "the carpenter"

the three most dissapointing "new release" albums i bought this year were:

1. PAUL WELLER "sonik kicks" worst album of his career IMO
2. NEIL YOUNG & CRAZY HORSE "americana" i expected better from CH doing a 'folk covers' album
3. PAUL McCARTNEY "kisses on the bottom" bland, boring,"cant be arsed, but lets make some money" effort from the former Beatle

albums i am looking foreward to next year include:

1. Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds one due in february

2. Neil Finn due out early next year

3. John Fogerty, should have been released a couple of months ago, so i guess it is scheduled for next year

4. Paul McCartney has a 'rock album' that has been recorded, i had heard rumours it was coming out in 2012 shortly after 'kisses...' but didnt eventuate.

either way, i look foreward to hearing a stack of new releases over the next 12 months, and hopefully a few will meet my satisfaction to purchase at some point, and also, discovering a few new or older artists though members of MD....

Best Albums Of The Year Lists - CRAZY-HORSE - 24-12-2012

i forgot to mention...
the above list of my favourite albums of 2012 took me the last three or four weeks to collate, listening and re-listening to them to make sure i got them right in my head for inclusion in the Crazy-Horse 2012 list.

it will be interesting to see how i feel about these albums in 12months,2yrs or ever 5yrs time....i guess time will tell!

Best Albums Of The Year Lists - Music Head - 24-12-2012

Here is my Best Albums of the Year list for 2012.

I have listened to 181 new releases this year, and of those, 31 end up on my possible buy list,
meaning they achieved a score of 1.7 or higher. That is my line in the sande if you will. That
doesn't mean I will buy all of those, or that I will not buy others not on the list. I will be
lucky to get half of those on the list. As most here know, I assign a score to my album
listens, both those I own and those I listen to online. Of those 31 albums, I own 2 as a gift
from a mate. At least that cuts it down to 29. My list is in no order, other than being grouped
by each grade. Within each group they are in order only by the date they were heard.

2.2

Bob Dylan - Tempest

2.1

Kelly Clarkson - Greatest Hits, Chapter One

1.9

Craig Finn - Clear Heart Full Eyes
Red Wanting Blue - From The Vanishing Point
Great Lake Swimmers - New Wild Everywhere
Father John Misty - Fear Fun
Heavy - The Glorious Dead

1.8

Ben Kweller - Go Fly A Kite
M. Ward - A Wasteland Companion
Cult - Choice Of Weapon
Hacienda - Shakedown
Script - #3
Paloma Faith - Fall To Grace
Angus Stone - Broken Brights

1.7

Rebelution - Peace Of Mind
Nada Surf - The Stars Are Indifferent To Astronomy
Dr. Dog - Be The Void
Margot And The Nuclear So & So's - Rot Gut, Domestic
Shins - Port Of Morrow
Tribe - Baby
Alabama Shakes - Boys & Girls
Dry The River - Shallow Bed

Silversun Pickups - Neck Of The Woods
Best Coast - The Only Place

Freelance Whales - Diluvia

Best Albums Of The Year Lists - PennyLane - 25-12-2012

So yesterday I turned on my iPod to find that everything was gone. What happened? You ask. I haven't the slightest clue. So now I have to fill it up once again. From scratch. 80GB, to fill. So I will be taking all these albums I have not listened to yet and get to work. Gotta weed out what I want.

Also, I have to say that Angus Stone is great. I was an Angus & Julia fan but I think that he may be better one his own, I have not made up my mind about Julia yet though.

Bob Dylan top of the list eh????
great album IMO,especially for a guy who's been around for 50yrs now and who cant really sing a note in tune for the most part...

so i gather you didnt end up hearing Bruce Springsteen's album through the year then???...that one should be one your purchaes list IMO, i think ALL of us here who have heard it or own it love it....

i'll probably get a couple off your list Music Head as our taste/scores are similar with new ones...

181 new release listens...that is awesome MH, think i got to about 50 this year and half of those were crap....cant wait for 2013 to see what the latest musical fad is, and looking foreward to listening to some good albums from a multitude of artists!

Nice list Crazy mate ! I like your "disappointing " list...for me it was Macy Gray's tribute to Stevie Wonder and the Mumford's Babel.

wait! stop!
so I need to revise my list already?
I have Mumfords on there. You didn't like it?
I haven't heard it, so advice is needed.
I know you really liked I Will Wait.
Is that all you liked on the album?
My potential purchase was based entirely on the last album
