Hey CRAZY-HORSE – was oblivious to the new competition, but now it’s a tie! :laugh: Stumbled over a not-too-shabby vinyl copy of album no 7, Break of Dawn today. Amazing how you sometimes get what you wish for! I will be trying out that strategy more often.

Rick Wakeman's 'The Phantom of the Opera'. I am a great fan of Mr Wakeman, and some of the pieces on this I like, but overall it just does not cut it, I prefer his 'Wives', 'Journey' and especially 'White Rock' albums - a musical accompaniment to the Winter Games in Innsbruck in '76.

southern rock/swamp rock outfit's second album....
now, these guys are a strange breed to me, in that i either love or dislike their material...only two other bands come to mind where i can say the same thing,INXS and Midnight Oil, theres no inbetween with any of them for some reason....!
anyway, this one consists of some brilliant guitar laden bluesy chug-along rock riffs,none more so than on their signature tune "sweet home alabama" which opens the album in fine form!
theres a lovely ballad on here, the brilliant "ballad of curtis loew", not sure if Curtis is actually some old blues guy or a ficticious character in the song, but that song is my favourite on here.
for those who dont know, "sweet home alabama" was the Skynyrd's venom spit ained at Neil Young who,according to a lot of Southern folks, put them down in his "alabama" and "southern man" tracks previously...so come the lines..."i heard mr. young talk about us","i heard old neil put us down","i hope neil young will remember,a southern man dont need him 'round"...
all up, a very good album overall....
