Alex Chilton was just 16 years old when this debut hit was recorded. Producer Penn had been
working with studio owner Chips Moran and demanded to do something on his own. Chips suggested
an unknown group and a batch of songs from an unknown writer. Penn heard a demo tape of this
and knew he had a hit. After coaching Alex on the vocals they headed to the studio to lay this
track down in one day. Strings were later added. It became the #1 song of the year.

Joe Cocker's version is exceptional but I'll go for Alex Chilton's version with the Boxtops! Alex ended up being a musical genius of sorts as his career progressed!
