"a" side...love this song, these guys never made a bad single in the 1980s
"b" side, a spoken word track and all i imagine is Ian Dury could have done this one!

Alvin was a UK part-time singer,part-time actor through the 1970s/80s...
this "a" side is a cover of the old Nat King Cole single...
not sure if the "b" side is a cover or not, but it sounds like it could be...

PRETENDERS "back on the chain gang" b/w "my city was gone" 1982
these guys were consistantly good singles guys back in the day...not brilliant IMO, just good at what they did...
"a" side still sounds pretty good after all these years...
"b" side is a pretty good song also, could have been an "a" side in its own right actually.
single actually reached #11 here,which if i was asked how it charted prior to this, i'd have said "it bombed"!

STRANGE TENNANTS "big red bus" b/w "temptation" 1985
Aussie ska band from the mid 1980s...
has sort of a ub40 reggae-ish sound happening here though...
i must have liked this back in the day, but not now!

STING "russians" b/w "gabriels message" 1985
this is Sting's best solo singled "a" side IMO...
so haunting,dour and ominous...he never bettered himself except with his "little wing" cover as a solo artist.
"b" side is a christmas song...its a cover of an old song, but i like it
single peaked at #11 here

another 12" single and another sealed collectors item, so this will be my first listen of the "b" side tracks...
"a" side is absolutely brilliant IMO...a classic song from the last decade of music...
"a" side is a piano ballad off their debut album "get born", song has a distinct John Lennon feel to it
single was their highest charting single here, peaking at @12

MADNESS "michael caine" b/w "if you think theres something..." 1984
"a" side includes vocals by UK actor Michael Caine...
the guys from Madness come from the same area as the actor and wrote a song about him...they then asked MC if he would record a vocal they could use in the song, he obliged,but wasnt very imaginative recording two solitary lines...my name is michael caine[I]/i am michael caine[/I]
it works okay i guess...
"b" side is another stupid Madness instrumental...
single failed to chart here but did make the top10 on their homeland

okay single,has the usual ELO hallmarks,but just doesnt have the same spark their music did back in the day...
"b" side has slight Travellin' Willbury's feel to it
both sides are okay though...

yep...another Madonna single, i was a fan back in the day, but not now!
i do not like the "a" side...
"b" side is a Don Henley track,its okay...both tracks are from the "crazy for you" soundtrack
