Mississippi John Hurt An early commercial failure, he was re-discovered in 1963 when he was 70. He helped spark the folk/blues revival and has been covered by a diverse group of major artists.

Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown As strong as he was as a player and style-leader on the guitar, he was maybe stronger on the fiddle (strong leader in American fiddle music). He hated labels on his music and it was always a delightful melange (a gumbo) of Texas and Louisiana influences--it was "Gatemouth music". Look at that big self-effacing smile--he knew where he stood in the Pantheon ...and went out proving it and burnishing it at every gig.

Roy Buchanan "the People's Player" Rarely traveled mostly making his living as a club player in the greater DC area. Noted and studied for his total command of tone and overall technique--that guitar always did what he wanted it to do--nothing more, nothing less. Grisly end, no matter which story you believe.

Billy Gibbons Tough to tell how good he is because he plays such essentially simple music (I expect a ton of shtuff from folks for that remark). Has also been an actor and producer. Started as a psychedelic guitarist good enough to garner praise and a pink guitar from Jimi Hendrix. Funny thing that the member of ZZ Top named Beard...doesn't have one. Mr. Gibbons is a vegetarian.
