I donât have any idea about most of these but based on your clue would hazard a guess at Rain morphing into Oasis? That clue, and the fact that both are watery names speaks to me â which doesnât necessarily follow, but oh well! Lol!
I have two to contribute though â¦
Daddy, as they were thankfully briefly referred to, became exceedingly well known under a much more free-spirited name ⦠also a single word.
Spice bears absolutely no resemblance to the name following, which actually is a proper name â¦

Rain = Oasis, you are quite correct Ruby:
Rain was taken as their original name as it was Liam's favourite Beatle song, came off the Revolver album,
when Noel started writing original material the name was changed.
as for your two other contributions, i'll have to go away and think about them, thanks for joining in and participating in the game.

Starfish/Coldplay: I don't know why they started with the name Starfish, but it has apparently been a popular band name; there have been at least three bands called Starfish, which may be why they felt the need to change their name. I am curious (Yellow) about why they chose "Coldplay". Does it mean something?
As for #10, you'll have to explain that one. Was there an amputee in the band?

This came up before, when I posted Terry Reid in BOTD, so I checked it out again. Hope I have my facts straight!
Re the birth of Led Zep, seems that when the Yarbirds were in the process of slowly fizzling out, Jimmy Page was talking about a âsupergroupâ comprising himself, Jeff Beck, John Entwistle and Keith Moon with either Steve Winwood or Steve Marriott as vocalist (who JP had set as his benchmark for a singer, and who, incidentally, already had Robert Plant as a huge fan). As you say, CH, Marriott turned him down and that group never formed, obviously, and the Yardbirds straggled along until playing their last gig about a year and a half later. They still had a remaining contractual obligation to tour Scandinavia though, at which point, after getting the go ahead from management, Page approached Terry Reid to come on board as singer, who in turn pointed him in the direction of Robert Plant and John Bonham who was also in Band of Joy. John Paul Jones had already played a couple of sessions with Page so applied for the bass vacancy, and voila ⦠a touring New Yardbirds was formed. They gelled, fortunately, and had to drop the New Yardbirds name just before releasing their debut, which theyâd already recorded, as one of the erstwhile common or garden Yardbirds was making a fuss about it all. Probably not a bad thing as Led Zeppelin was infinitely the more inspired title. Anyway â¦

For anyone who might be interested, there are genealogies of rock which have been compiled by a gentleman named Pete Frame who used to be a journalist/music magazine editor and who is also an author on the subject.

The writer listed something like 105 different line-ups of John Mayall's Blues Breakers.

Absolutely horrible! So ill advised. And no, Spice has less than zero to do with those girls.
Ok â there are cryptic clues in the way I originally described these bands, but they may be a little too vague, so:
Daddy changed their name so as not to be confused with Daddy Longlegs and their eventual name was taken from an autobiography. Unrelated, but a further clue; Christopher McCandless used this as the surname of his alter ego.
Spice changed their name to that of a fictional character, primarily because the authorâs work was experiencing a resurgence in popularity at the time.
