That's a really good subject because yes, there are band I never understood why people like them so much:

U2 : It's a huge band, people seems to love them so much... Each time I hear a song from them, I wonder what the hell is go great about them.

David Bowie: lots of album, great career; not even one song ever grabbed my attention... This one is particularly special: I feel like I have a shield that prevents me to be interested in his music; it's not that I hate it, I am just 100% indifferent!

The Beatles: It just seems normal music to my ears. Nothing so impressive.

Pink Floyd: When I tell people I like Mike Oldfield, they sometimes say that I should listen to Pink Floyd. So I tried The Wall, Dark Side of the Moon, A Saucerful of Secrets, Atom Heart Mother, Animals, The Final Cut. No, I don't like it. The only album I really like is Division Bell, but all fans say that this is not a real Pink Floyd album because Roger Water was not involved, so I am not a real Pink Floyd lover!

i agree on everyone of these subjects.... except for pink floyd. i get what you are saying about the beetles but most like them because at the time they were revolutionary... not now.
ps: i'm giving david bowie ANOTHER try. this is my 5th. my girlfriend has an obsession/fatuation with him and afi. i didn't like afi at first but now i kinda like it. david bowie is another thing though so wish me luck.

Some of the bands listed - Tool, Grateful Dead, Dave Matthews Band, namely - are very hyped for their live music. I'm a huge DMB fan, and i agree that all of their album tracks are junk. But listen to their live jams, especially those in which other musicians take part (Tim Reynolds, Warren Haynes, etc.), those are where the true music is. Same with Tool, and I'm sure the Dead. Live jams are where the band can perform their true emotions to their true fans, and not worry what the radio thinks.

I agree that most of the bands on the list are overhyped, but that's not to say they're not good =]

If your girlfriend have a lot of his albums, you can pick up a new one each time you give a try. Maybe one album will be better than another for you.

But I will probably never go through this so I wish you good luck!

If you ever discover one album that you like, tell me I may be open for a listen...

You're missing the most important one, Wish You Were Here, and in musical terms i.e the structure, melody and harmony in the composition, it is far superior to anything else they ever did. All you have to do is look at the sheet music for the album. Their most original chord progressions and most creative melody lines.

Agree about U2 & The Beatles - although I must admit I liked 'The Joshua Tree' maybe because it was influenced By Eno & Lanois, who gave it more depth than their other albums.

Bowie is a different kettle of fish - I think he was someone well ahead of his time and he really tried to be innovative. 'My Death' and 'Wild is the Wind' are 2 examples of someone taking songwriting to a new level.

Oh yes - and Radiohead & The Orb are hopeless.

Van Morrison

"Astral Weeks" is an absiluite masterpiece, easily one of the greatest albums to have been put to record. A true gift from the heavens. Otherwise, he's pretty darn lame. I can't even begin to describe the disappointment I felt upon learning everything else he did was boring soul pop

Never got Pearl Jam , Nickelback or Metallica and let it be known sorry to a lot of MD members, Bruce Springsteen !!!
