Saw them at Wembley Arena a couple of weeks ago and they were amazing. Best ever indoor gig for audience participation and stage sets. Would be interested to know how big they are in the U.S. and what you guys from across the pond think of them.

Another one I never heard of that shows up as a pearl. Love it when I stumble across these. Founded in 2006 by Frames frontman Glen Hansard and Czech songstress Marketa Irglova. The name comes from a novel by a Czech writer. This is their sophmore effort. They were romantically involved for a time. That ended, but the good music survives for now. A lot of these clips are live with just acoustic guitar, which is good from the standpoint of seeing the artist, but I think the studio versions are much better, but you take what you can get.

Worst Track - The Verb

Best Track - Low Rising

I wanna sit you down and talk
I wanna pull back the veils
And find out what it is I've done wrong
I wanna tear these curtains down
I want you to meet me somewhere
Tonight in this old tourist town
And we'll go

Low rising
'Cause we've gotta come up
We've gotta come up
Low rising
'Cause I fear we've had enough
Low rising
'Cause there's no further for us to fall
Low rising
Oh, for the love of you

I wanna take you to the rock
I wanna jump right in
And see what that big ocean's got
I wanna turn this thing around
I wanna drink with you
All night, till we both fall down
Till we go

Low rising
'Cause we've gotta come up
We've gotta come up
Low rising
'Cause there's no further for us to fall
Low rising
And I fear we've had enough
Low rising
Oh, for the love of you

Low rising
'Cause we've gotta come up
We've gotta come up
Low rising
And I fear we've had enough
Low rising
'Cause there's no further for us to fall
Low Rising
Oh, for the love of you

For the love of you

Low rising, low rising

I wanna sit you down and talk

I wanna sit you down and talk about it now

Debut from Arizona high school band formed in 2007 by brothers John and Stephen Gomez claiming Jimmy Eat World as influence. Not too bad considering the experience. Not much depth lyrically, with sex being the primary topic, but we are talking teenage boys here.

Worst Track -Take It Slow

Best Track - Where Are You Now

It rains all day when you're not around
And I'm trying my best to come clean with the clouds
They follow me around
I'll dance 'till the rain comes down

Stuck in the sand with the waves at my feet
And I wish you'd come crash into me
'Cause where you are is where I wanna be now
Where are you now?

And I know I'm not perfect but what the hell
Do you think of me now?
Do you think of me now?

They say that love is for the patient
[ The Summer Set Lyrics are found on Lyrics ]
Gotta plan for being restless for now

Hope I'm more than a cheap trick you played on yourself
But I do it so well
Yeah, I'm doing so well

They follow me around
I'll dance 'till the rain comes down

Stuck in the sand with the waves at my feet
And I wish you'd come crash into me
'Cause where you are is where I wanna be now
Where are you now?

But when I leave
She walks and she talks and she stirs my feet
Like she's sleeping next to me

It doesn't matter where we are
It doesn't matter where we are
It doesn't matter if we're states apart
She loves me

Been sittin' on my computer for a couple of weeks calling me. Moved it over to the mp3 today to give a listen. Not as impressed as I was with their latest one, I And Love And You, but still good stuff. Could use a little more rhythm on some tracks. I do like the sparseness of instruments and love that stand up bass and cello. Lyrically this is just as sharp. Clip for track #5 was shot on the tour bus and talk about cramped. Surprised it didn't tip over. Funny stuff. Don't see where this album ever even charted. Too bad.

Worst Track - Pretty Girl From San Diego

Best Track - The Ballad Of Love And Hate

Love writes a letter and sends it to hate.
My vacations ending. I'm coming home late.
The weather was fine and the ocean was great
and I can't wait to see you again.

Hate reads the letter and throws it away.
"No one here cares if you go or you stay.
I barely even noticed that you were away.
I'll see you or I won't, whatever."

Love sings a song as she sails through the sky.
The water looks bluer through her pretty eyes.
And everyone knows it whenever she flies,
and also when she comes down.

Hate keeps his head up and walks through the street.
Every stranger and drifter he greets.
And shakes hands with every loner he meets
with a serious look on his face.

Love arrives safely with suitcase in tow.
Carrying with her the good things we know.
A reason to live and a reason to grow.
To trust. To hope. To care.

Hate sits alone on the hood of his car.
Without much regard to the moon or the stars.
Lazily killing the last of a jar
of the strongest stuff you can drink.

Love takes a taxi, a young man drives.
As soon as he sees her, hope fills his eyes.
But tears follow after, at the end of the ride,
cause he might never see her again.

Hate gets home lucky to still be alive.
He screams o'er the sidewalk and into the drive.
The clock in the kitchen says 2:55,
And the clock in the kitchen is slow.

Love has been waiting, patient and kind.
Just wanting a phone call or some kind of sign,
That the one that she cares for, who's out of his mind,
Will make it back safe to her arms.

Hate stumbles forward and leans in the door.
Weary head hung, eyes to the floor.
He says "Love, I'm sorry", and she says, "What for?
I'm your and that's it, Whatever.
I should not have been gone for so long.
I'm your's and that's it, forever."

You're mine and that's it, forever.

These San Francisco guys were riding the wave for a brief time back in the early 00's then just faded away. Well, they are back with a very nice set here with their 5th release. They did take 4 years to make this, so all that rest should produce some results. Lead singer Patrick Monahan was also doing some solo work along the way. This one, already at #17 on the charts being out only a short time, with the single of Hey Soul Sister.

Worst Track - This Ain't Goodbye

Best Track - Save Me San Francisco

I used to love the tenderloin
Until I made some tender coin
And then I met some ladies from Marin
We Took the Highway to the one,
Up the coast to catch some sun
That left me with these blisters on my skin
Don’t know what I was on,
But I think it grows in Oregon,
So I kept on goin going on right through
I drove into Seattle Rain
Fell in love then missed the train
That could have took me right back home to you

[Chorus:]
I've been high, I've been low, I've been yes and I've been oh hell no!
I've been rock ‘n roll and disco,
Won’t you save me san francisco?

Every day so caffienated
I wish they were Golden Gated
Fillmore couldn’t feel more miles away
So wrap me up return to sender
Let's forget this five year bender
Take me to my city by the bay!

I never knew all that i had,
Now Alcatraz don’t sound so bad
At least they have a hell of a fine Merlot
If I could wish upon a star
I would hitch a cable car
To the place that I can always call my own!

I've been high I've been low,
I've been yes and I've been oh, hell no!
I been rock ‘n roll and disco,
Won’t you save me San Francisco?
I've been up, I've been down,
I've been so damn lost since you’re not around,
I been reggae and calypso
Won’t you save me San Francisco?

To tell you the truth
I miss everything, everything
It’s a wild, wild beautiful world
But there’s a wide eyed girl back there
And she means everything, everything,

I've been stop
I've been go
I've been yes and I've been oh, hell no!
I've been rock and roll and disco,
Won’t you save me San Francisco?
I've been up,I've been down,
I've been so damn lost
Since you’re not around,
I've been reggae and calypso,
Won’t you save me San Francisco?

The Strokes - Is This it

A glorious debut...

The energy on this album gets to me every time.

Every so often an album will blow me to pieces. It's probably some sort of celestial alignment where the volume has to be right, my mood has to be just so, and so on. This was one of those...

Bliss.
