What Are You Reading ? - Music Head - 06-09-2016 Gwenda Blair - The Trumps - 2000 ![]() dated at this point but still very interesting the story of Donald's grandfather, father and himself mostly Donald of course grandfather made his mark in the restaurant business never became wealthy but very well off father built homes in NYC Donald took over and expanded the empire egos should be restricted the man is a nutcase Grade - A next up - The Able McLaughlins by Margaret Wilson What Are You Reading ? - Music Head - 17-09-2016 Margaret Wilson - The Able McLaughlins - 1923 ![]() Setting is the Iowa prairie shortly after the Civil War. Young man is home from the war determined to marry his grade school sweetheart. Mission accomplished but only after she is raped and impregnated by a cousin. Hell, I didn't even know they had rape back then. The kid is secretly raised as his own after the cousin is run out of prairie. He returns later with the husband determined to kill him. He doesn't have to. The culprit contracts malaria and dies on his own. Everybody else lives happily ever after. The End Grade - C next - Radicals for Capitalism by Brian Doherty What Are You Reading ? - trickster92 - 22-09-2016 ![]() latest thing i read What Are You Reading ? - Music Head - 13-10-2016 Brian Doherty - Radicals For Capitalism - 2008 ![]() damn haven't been in that deep since Hayek's The Road To Serfdom or Buckley's Up From Liberalism a very good history of the Libertarian party I learned a lot retention is the problem Grade - B next up - So Big by Edna Ferber What Are You Reading ? - Oceansoul - 14-10-2016 I just bought a book duo today, the Six of Crows series by Leigh Bardugo. Now I have something new to read and I've been looking for this one. It's an adventure/heist story. Not exactly educational like some here are reading, haha. What Are You Reading ? - Music Head - 27-10-2016 Edna Ferber - So Big - 1924 ![]() Pulitzer Prize winner Set in the outskirts of Chicago in the late 1800's Title refers to the nickname used for this normal size kid because his momma always said she loved him "so big" using her arms to show him now ain't that cute? about half of the book is about his mom and half about him a life book momma tills the land and sells the crops in the big city wants the boy to do the same he rebels and goes off to school ends up selling bonds and becoming well off momma is sad but she'll be ok Grade - B next up - George and Laura by Christopher Andersen What Are You Reading ? - MFS - 27-10-2016 Mythology is an interesting subject in general and Greece/Roman mythology is something I very much appreciate... But, I'm lazy - or efficient, depending on perspective - not reading it, listening to it..:
What Are You Reading ? - Music Head - 08-11-2016 Christopher Andersen - George And Laura - 2002 ââ¬â¹ ![]() A mini bio of them both. George was a hell raiser back in his college days. Surprised he didn't get in more trouble with the law than he did. One drunk driving arrest on his record. Laura's is squeaky clean. But she did kill someone in a traffic accident. No drinking was involved. No policy stuff in the book. Just about their marriage. George turned his life around when he gave up the liquor. Laura put the hammer down. The birth of the twins woke him up also. Only covers through 9/11 and so far they have lived happily ever after. Grade - C next - The Laughing Boy by Oliver La Farge What Are You Reading ? - Rooster - 10-11-2016
What Are You Reading ? - Music Head - 15-11-2016 Oliver Lafarge - Laughing Boy - 1929 Pulitzer Prize winner Appears this guy took an interest in native American culture as most of his writings are in that area. Not a very good book for me. Made into a movie in 1934. A lot of Indian tradition stuff going on. Basically a love story with a tragic ending. Grade - D next up - Dreams From My Father by Barack Obama |
