distinctive voices and voicing--an ongoing Thread - jazzboCR - 22-03-2014
"Voices" is an easy one; "voicing" an instrument is much harder. I'll be looking for other Members to chime in, please.
1) Chet Baker--Did anyone before or since play such breathy trumpet? Coy voice too.: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8SGAcP7Zh6U and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tO7HpibwCbA // http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IXC03U4mQoA << back-to-back full albums
http://www.allmusic.com/artist/chet-baker-mn0000094210/biography << included because of one glaring error--he didn't fall from a hotel room but was thrown out by drug dealers he tried to cheat
Miles Davis--especially on muted trumpet: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IrVnm66joQk&list=PL153E171C906C801C and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fBq87dbKyHQ&list=PL153E171C906C801C also http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vsb-lXec76w&list=PL153E171C906C801C then http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F3W_alUuFkA&list=PL153E171C906C801C finally http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PoPL7BExSQU&list=PL153E171C906C801C << This and "Jazz Samba" by Stan Getz are cornerstones of any jazz collection
Stan Getz--How could such a total sh!t of a human being do something so lovely? Enduring mystery...: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oc2SffeDg1g&list=RDOc2SffeDg1g << full album--1 or 2 cuts just don't do it and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rp6Nw5ZJgIA then 2 from much later: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n-Y1Eb-HuDs and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tt1hKJNZq1c
