World cup 2014 - SteveO - 11-06-2014

Any members interested in tis year's World Cup in Brazil ? I always hope for England(Canada sucks in men's soccer though the women are in the Top 10) and then an African team! The English have selected a very young team this time around ...a move to endure the scorching Brazilian heat!

Play gets underway tomorrow at 5 pm AST(Atlantic Standard Time)....Brazil vs Croatia in Sao Paulo!

Bookies have the teams listed from one to five as follows: Brazil, Argentina, Germany, Spain(present WC champions) and (Belgium???)

The upside is that my time zone is only an hour behind Brazil...the downside ...Coronation Street shows will be shown at 11 am for a month until the WC is over on 13 July!...lol

World cup 2014 - CRAZY-HORSE - 12-06-2014

i dont really follow football nowadays, but i still hold a bit of interest in the EPL(english premier league), my team there is Arsenal(who incidently, won the coverted FA Cup a few weeks ago for the first time in a decade!).
if and when i watch football internationals i like to watch the best teams play(italy,portugal,brazil,france)...
as for England...
pretty much the same as most English international sports teams...brilliant sportsmen, but always unable to replicate their class as a team(too many personalities and self indulgent heroes in the teams)
i might get a bit more interested as the World Cup ges to the quarter-finals and beyond...
always good to see an outsider do well in any competition also...i sort of cheer on the 'little guys', its good for sport.

simple answer...they wont!

Soccer may scrape into the top5 sports out here for participation...
the main biggies are AFL(Aussie Football),Rugby...league & union,Cricket,Basketball,Golf and Soccer...
which order they come in at depends upon where you are and what the experts are trying to promote.

there's nothing wrong with the Aussie players over there in Brasil, as a lot of them play the major leagues in Europe and Asia(namely Japan),
the problem is,
they never get to play as a unit very often and so there's simply not the bonding and camaradary(is that how you spell it??).

personally,i think they'll be lucky if they win one match, they may come away with a draw or two,but thats it.

it'll be pretty hard not to tip Brazil on their home turf...
Argentina...i dont think theyre as good as they were a few years ago.
Italy,France,Spain,Porugal...they'll be in the running for sure IMO

thats just my opinion, and to be fair, i havent really kept up on the ins-and-outs of Soccer for a few years now

i probably wont even watch any of it on tv as its on in the middle of the night here...and i like my sleep!
