Jimmy Scott, R.I.P. - jazzboCR - 14-06-2014
Jimmy Scott died on Thursday. No more soulful singer on the planet. Specialized in songs guaranteed to produce tears, from this old sloppy, soggy mess anyway. Here's an obit: http://www.nytimes.com/2014/06/14/arts/music/jimmy-scott-singer-whose-star-rose-late-dies-at-88.html Very nice by Peter Keepnews. Need to rid yourself of emotional junk? Try these:

We lost 20 years of his being recorded due to contract disputes and such. Just imagine if we hadn't...The only current singer even roughly comparable on ballads is Rebecca Parris. Try this by her: http://www.allmusic.com/album/my-foolish-heart-mw0000116394
BONUS: Just to show he wasn't stuck in the past, there's this '98 disc: http://www.allmusic.com/album/holding-back-the-years-mw0000047014

Really a great loss to music industry, he was such a talented singer. Hope the upcoming generation learn some good singing ethics from this legend, who is no more with us to teach but his recording will serve the purpose.
