The WSJ Weekender has a guest column called "Playlist"; various folks (authors, music biz folks, a drag racer) talk about their fave song; this week it's Dave Barry on "Gloria"--total hoot.: http://online.wsj.com/articles/dave-barry-why-van-morrisons-gloria-is-the-best-song-ever-1403809634?KEYWORDS=playlist and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J0aHmMfZTEw
Just had to include this one: http://online.wsj.com/news/articles/SB10001424052702304652804579572252966053362?mod=WSJ_article_exploremore
Here's the compilation the article showcases and here's the Albert Ammons piece from it: http://www.allmusic.com/album/juke-joint-jump-boogie-woogie-celebration-mw0000080497 and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E7Up0cQcmqo << sure can see where this might alter young player's development
Real fun column--delve for yourself.

What a great article, jazzbo! I read a few of the others, and then went looking for the Rock Bottom Remainders' performance of Gloria (no luck, but I did enjoy their performance of "In the Midnight Hour"). Thank you!!

Thanks for the compliment and the clip. This band is a revolving cast of characters, all well-established authors blowing off steam. Came across this great saying from that profound philosopher, Anon.: "Knowledge is like a river--the deeper it is, the less noise it makes." << presented by a babbling brook.
