...and does a brilliant job. The Royal Sessions. The reason it works so well is because he doesn't ape the originals, no attempt to sound Black. He uses the same studio and a lot of the same players but his singing emphasizes the hurt, the angst, the joy anyone of any ethnicity can feel. http://www.allmusic.com/album/the-royal-sessions-mw0002605924 << call this a vanity project that works well or one of those outta-nowhere terrific-tributes but do give it a listen. 3 songs then the full album:
