Bruce Hornsby - jazzboCR - 27-11-2014 There is no Thread category that can encompass Mr. Hornsby. Consider: 3 Grammys including New Artist, Pop AND Bluegrass. Recent excellent album with 2 contemporary jazz greats (Christian McBride and Jack DeJohnette). Toured with the Grateful Dead for 2+ years ('07-'09) AND has a on-going marvelous relationship with one of the better, more inventive Bluegrass artists, Ricky Skaggs--"A piano? In Bluegrass? Really?" Oh so yes, when it's Mr. Hornsby. Obviously plays well with others--his live shows are legendary (not least 'cuz there's no setlist--he and the lads play whatever) and has been well-captured in a 2-CD set Bride of the Noisemakersââ¬â¹The cover is a certified hoot, BUT he has a new 2-CD set of solo piano that will bring you to your knees in joy. I wanna personally thank him for motivating Leon Russell's comeback album: http://www.showbiz411.com/2014/11/25/leon-russell-band-instruments-stolen-but-so-was-his-lost-2014-comeback-album (The Union is a terrif album but is more a duet thing with Elton John so doesn't quite count. But get it--best thing either has done in years). Mr. Hornsby is touring in the Spring '15--SW, California, then the Midwest. http://www.brucehornsby.com/ This wiki is a good read: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bruce_Hornsby Pop now, Bluegrass later: With the Range: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bDgOwX72fLI http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cBSeEcFiTWA << Political? Well, I see solidarity with working men, which by definition is political http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GlRQjzltaMQ << His only big hit and it got him in part where he is today. Stands the test of time and he never turned his back on it. With the Noisemakers: Same song redux: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VyPLzXcPmUQ << flexible, expansive song and still so true. Transfixing--if you can tune away, you're a stronger person than I. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b6kn0aLtD1A << with another rule-breaker/earth-shaker, Bela Fleck. Get on down, my Brothers. No joke--you may not spend a better 10 minutes this week. BUT the way it cuts off is a shame and a sin. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=knXa28plnaM http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wSEjDoE-QEI << such a beautiful song--# 339 on Rolling Stone mag's list of 500 greatest songs. Who am I to disagree? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R7sqQwPKQeE << As he clearly states, co-credit with Don Henley for writing BONUS: A complete live album from 15+ years ago: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8iyEqU1FA6Y&list=PL2FPyLM2Yt-5j1XTWbDT4WmKAdI4cx9pN Bruce Hornsby - jazzboCR - 27-11-2014 Mr. Hornsby solo These clips are from 8 years ago, when he'd just issued that jazz piece with jazzmeisters Chr. McBride and Jack DeJohnette. He also has a 2-CD piece called Solo, so this show is the usual BH amalgam. In 2 parts totalling about 2 hours at one venue at one time--astonishing stamina and invention: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6HUA9mbT5AM https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fQ4P_CDRS0w Jazz with Christian McBride and Jack DeJohnette Camp Meeting sure could do without that drum machine in the BG: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YKjvZuwcslY https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BfWGoAk12hQ << Mostly, I've stuck with tunes... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zsyzDf-c1ng << ...with which I was familiar https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Je7JIWgMIPQ << lovely song, previously strapped on by titans--Duke Ellington, Lena Horne, Joe Pass--another edition to the canon. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T2chxcrRT58 << a rockin' little ditty. An out-of-nowhere disc for all concerned but Mr. Hornsby could not find a more empathic rhythm section Bruce Hornsby - Jerome - 27-11-2014 Bought 'The Union' album with Leon & Elton. One of my better buys - great album. Bruce Hornsby - jazzboCR - 28-11-2014 Piano-with-Bluegrass is not unique (Leon Russell and the New Grass Revival did it in the '70's [terrif live DVD, BTW--great BG for a party]) but when you have consummate, eclectic artists who are truly invested in the music they are making--that, folks, is something special. And so it is with Bruce Hornsby and Ricky Skaggs--mostly with Mr. Skaggs band. "The truth of the feeling is in the telling." http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2LYXFCkPqmA << This is an all-America audience in an all-America city diggin' the sh!t out of all-American songs by an all-American band. Does it get much better? OK, now let's move to the Bluegrass side of the house (Bless you, Bill Monroe): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p11__FrJU6g http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AHPhZwZKvzk << right--I lied but Rick James' estate still accrues royalties http:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GZM9PQEyq0g << a serious string-line doing a beautiful version http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AqF2XrDJ6vI < y'all Southern lads can relate...Mr. Skaggs can tear it up on the fiddle too... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Z8wsWSVfo0 << ....Mr. Hornsby can get down on other than 88s as well Bruce Hornsby - TheNeedleDrops - 19-06-2015 Funny story about Bruce Hornsby music...is it weird that my basketball team in college ran out to "Gonna Be Some Changes Made"...that's not weird is it. Well regardless, I got them all hooked on it!
