Buddy DeFranco, RIP - jazzboCR - 28-12-2014

The best and certainly most prominent post-WW II jazz clarinetist. Started in swing but made the change to bop so well, he challenged the dominance of sax players. Died at 91 and played nearly to the end. 55 year recording history, all of it superior: http://www.allmusic.com/artist/buddy-defranco-mn0000638918/discography What the NYTimes says: http://www.nytimes.com/2014/12/27/arts/music/buddy-defranco-versatile-jazz-clarinetist-dies-at-91.html An extensive print interview: http://tedpanken.wordpress.com/2012/02/17/on-buddy-defrancos-89th-birthday-a-1999-downbeat-article-plus-interview/
