Who/what is to blame for all these new pop tunes!!!??? - HahaharryLewis - 30-12-2014

Some people hate on Simon Cowell because of his so called heartless, non caring attitude towards the modern day music industry. Just because the music he is involved with is not like ‘the classics’ or musically complex and meaningful, it doesn't mean he's pumping it out for the pure factor of money, does it?
I understand its highly likely he is, and who’s to say you wouldn't be doing the same if you were in his position? However, the pure demand for boybands, dance tunes, and simple, ‘ear worm’ songs could be purely what he is responding to. Perhaps modern day technology fraying the minds of the consumer, is whats to blame for the demand of an extensive amount of the ‘garbage’ we hear today.

Who/what is to blame?

He is not responding to it - he's creating it.

If garbage it is, it's easily avoidable. XMSirius, your own collection, all the good stuff presented here. As far as Simon Cowell is concerned, the only time I come across him is as a YouTube sidebar and he's either weeping or astonished. Use your critical faculties and avoid the trash--it's not that hard to do. BTW you understand we are giving him props and street creds by even talking about him, right?

I'm not a fan of today's music by any definition, but to call it garbage would be to follow in the footsteps of every person that told The Beatles or Johnny Cash that they'd never make it. Pop music changes as the years go by, It's not always good, but you just have to ride the wave it makes to something that is. It's not easy to put the blame on one person for the way things are, you could call out Garth Brooks for the way today's Country music is- but with a catalog like his, can you really be mad? No, I may not like the music out there today, but I'm most definitely not going to ignore it. What we consider garbage today will be the inspiration for the next wave of talent.

David Bowie says the same thing about his own music...

"while i may not like some material i recorded(in hindsight),it took me to the next album, which took me to the one after that and so on...its progressive even though it appears regressive at times so i never dismiss anything ive done"
