Samuel Charters, R.I.P. - jazzboCR - 20-03-2015 If the name's not familiar, it's because he was a behind-the -scenes guy--book author, producer, mover-and-shaker. We and a lot of monster musicians have him to thank for reviving pre-WWII blues and revitalizing early Blues maker's careers. He then in the mid-'60's went on to expose the best in mid-century Chicago Blues.* This 1/2 page explains it all so much better: http://www.nytimes.com/2015/03/19/arts/music/samuel-charters-foundational-scholar-of-the-blues-dies-at-85.html He spent his last 45 years living in and being a citizen of Sweden, his disgust at the Viet Nam War being the reason. * Personal Note: My love of the Blues springs directly from his 3-record set mentioned in the obit Chicago: The Blues Today |
