So, posting this for your thoughts.

my playing, writing (what there is of it) is influenced significantly while on mainly in my case, alcohol.

Obviously this not healthy, but it brings out my true feelings, my true talent.

Your thoughts?

it may help you release feelings and emotions but it will not make you a better player or performer in the long term.

Drugs of all kinds have been used for centuries as an aid to creativity. While it might seem like a good idea at the time, long term it is detrimental. Having said that, there are a couple of notable albums that were definitely inspired by copious amounts of illegal substances. But there have also been very creative people who destroyed their lives after the money and fame kicked in and threw away what talent they had. History is littered with examples of both. By the way the booze does not bring out your true talent. It just gets rid of your inhibitions and insecurities. Try writing (and playing) straight. If you can't get anything out unless you're wasted then maybe you don't have any talent?!!?

I remember watching a band live in a local club and the drummer was so wasted that his drumsticks went flying from his hands!...lol...The band kept playing while he fumbled around the audience and finally retrieved the sticks. I am wondering if he still stayed with the band!

I guess I can say that I'm the exact opposite of it. I can't compose a song to save my life if I'm drunk. Once I tried to write a tune whilst drunk so I recorded it and thought "wow, how cool is this". Well, turns out the song was pure shi*e. It only affects your judgement, not your talent.
