How do you define music innovation - thepaciock - 04-12-2015 Hey guys, I have always wondered about the word "innovation" in the music world. To me it always meant "new sound", but sometimes it also coincided with "alternative music", whatever that means. So, given I don't have an answer, what is your opinion? What is music innovation and what does make songs innovative? Cheers from Italy How do you define music innovation - Jerome - 05-12-2015 Innovation to me means a new approach to composing. The 'sounds' themselves could be standard instruments but the way they are blended together might be quite unique. Or the method used to play them. Much like a chef creates a new meal but the ingredients are standard items. Then there is also innovation with regard to actual instruments - the Eigenharp for example. I don't think the term 'alternative' really has much credibility anymore. Everything is an alternative to something else anyway.
