Six Feet Under - Son of a Bitch

I like this cover much better than original. Usually I hate growl very much, I don't like death metal, but in this case we have: not that bad growl + fantastic music = very good track.

p.s. I don't like video too but can't find other. Sorry Smile

p.p.s. Original is Accept - Son of a Bitch: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rWk5wr1p3mk

I think I said this before, but Steve Morse's cover of Rush's La Villa Strangiato. The G3 cover of Frank Zappa's My Guitar Wants to Kill Your Momma'. Joe Bonamassa's cover of Tom Wait's Jockey Full of Bourbon. I'll think of a few more later.

I'll agree that Ms. Clarkson does a killer version but to say it cuts Sistah 'Retha's version is just ludicrous : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4giaKzPTPGE and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6FOUqQt3Kg0

gryphon Wrote:I tend to agree that the originals are often strong versions of songs but some artist can take a song further and when they do it can be magical

some we have already covered but I would like to add these

Twist and shout................The Beatles....John did make that his own song!
Words of Love...................The Beatles
I'm a Believer....................The Monkees , to be honest Neil Diamond's original is just a strong but the Monkees were of the time and made it famous
Wonderful Land ................Mike Oldfield
We Can Work It Out...........Stevie Wonder
Money..................................The Flying Lizards ..
unique approach
America.................................The Nice.......Worth it to hear Keith Emerson on full flight
Claire De Lune......................Tomita
Fortune Teller........................The Rolling Stones
Mr Bojangles...........................Covered well by so many people
Gentle On My Mind..................Glen Campbell or Frank Sinatra
Up In The World.......................Cliff Richard.......The Original is excellent too but so unknown
Earth Angel.............................The Penguins..........I know this is a cover but I've never heard the original
Marble Halls .............................Enya

One could go on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

...And one should--with clips of the tunes, like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3_iQZiVD_zA
Considering the bitter, tangled disputes concerning "Earth Angel", the Penguins can be considered the originals. Here's a good cover: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=41GsS3jldOI
Isao Tomita's take on Debussy: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rlCzO0GX_bA and Bach: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hP19q_7BA-c << anyone living in this crumbling manse deserves this music; and Ravel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xnt_8bUXVpw << he's got bunches more on YT

David Broad Wrote:Cracklin' Rosie was what made him here I would say , making No.3

Figured he'd break through with the UKsters with a drinking song about a cheap-jag booze. It was his first hit in the US, presumably for the same reasons: http://www.songfacts.com/detail.php?id=4009

David Broad Wrote:Thought of another one today . Tom Jones with the Steriophonics doing Mama Told Me Not To Come in 2000 . Far better than the original by Three Dog Night in 1970 . The backing music I would say is about the same but thing singing is an absolute flop in the version . Cool

Let's start with: TDN didn't do the original version (they were the ultimate cover band for most of their stuff): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mama_Told_Me_Not_to_Come
But yes I agree Tom Jones version cuts theirs: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g0njs6iiwjY << I love those LA bowling alley perfs--gathers all those self-important bung-warts in one place.
