I don't judge covers as being better than the original (although sometimes I think they are) but like it when they bring a different side to the song. Sometimes just having someone else sing the lyrics is enough to change a song in an interesting enough way for it to be interesting to me.

Here are some of my favorites:

Dinosaur Jr - Just Like Heaven (The Cure)
The Pixies - Cecelia Ann (The Surftones)
The Dollyrots - Brand New Key (Melanie)
Jonatha Brooke - Eye In The Sky (Alan Parson's Project)
Oasis - I Am The Walrus (The Beatles)
Mr. T Experience - Up And Down (Sesame Street)
Shonen Knife - Top Of The World (The Carpenters)
Cowboy Junkies - Sweet Jane (Lou Reed)

I've got a lot more, but they're not coming to mind now.

Jack Black (Tenacious D) covered Let's Get It On in the movie High Fidelity.
Jim Carrey's
version of Somebody To Love from Cable Guy.

Love both the above songs..

Florence + The Machine's cover of Hospital Beds by Cold War Kids is brilliant.
And perhaps bit controversial but The Killers' cover of Joy Division's Shadowplay.

carbon_psycho Wrote:Joe Cocker's "with a little help from my friends" was as good as the the original IMO.

Also Fiona Apple's Across The Universe.

No arguements on Joe Cocker . The best version to date . Hate that Wet Wet Wet version :hand:

carbon_psycho Wrote:I prefer We Are Going To Barbados & not the Vengaboys version..

I guess you just like some sexy females in your music with loads of dance music...
So basically u like remixes...

Coz that's what We are going to Ibiza seems more like..

Do you also prefer Vengaboys take on T-spoon's Sha la la??

Well I like the Vengaboys Version . Not heard T-Spoons version but I will check it out and let you know .

Another thing that springs to mind . "Feels Like I'm In Love" Not sure who did it originally and I have never heard it . All I know it was sung by a bloke and was a B side . However Kelly Mari did it in 1980 which was a good version . But also , though I think only as an album track , Brother Hood Of Man did that one and they really did do a good version .
