Thank heavens for that. Not saying Elvis couldn't have handled it well, but the star would have overshadowed the production.

I never thought of that, but yes, had Elvis been in it it would have been "the Elvis show" for sure...
And he show promise as an actor in his his early films, the notable ones being Jailhouse Rock, King Creole, G I Blues and Wild In The Country, then it all went downhill, stupid songs, stupid storylines etc, it became a purely moneymaking scheme for Hollywood to turn out three or four dumbass movies every year after '61 ish
