Orignals, not covers... - CRAZY-HORSE - 27-03-2017
I thought I would start a thread so members could bring us the original versions of songs.
these were often recorded many years prior to the well known versions that became hits for
other artists.
we may all be surprised that often some songs were/are covers but never got round to realising
they were covers,
thus, the idea of the thread is to bring the lesser known originals to our attention:
only one rule with the thread, link the originals with a short description.

First up,
I did not know this until a few weeks ago:
Smokie's classic "living next door to alice" was originally recorded by an Australian group called
New World back in 1972, it reached #35 on the Australian charts several years prior to Smokie recording it:

"i love rock and roll", Joan Jett covered it from an English band called The Arrows who
wrote/recorded and released it as a single back in 1975.

this next one was written by one of The Four Preps in the early 1960s and was recorded by Gloria Jones
in 1964, I guess her biggest claim to fame was being Marc Bolan's girlfriend in the 1970s...
but Soft Cell's 1982 cover is the one everyone knows, and IMO the best version of the song,

Iggy Pop was the one who was known for his 1986 single "real wild child (wild one)" but that was a cover also...
track was originally recorded/written by Aussie rocker Johnny O'Keefe back in 1958, Jerry Lee Lewis also recorded the
track for a 1974 album...

was originally written by Aussie Geoff Mack in 1958 for Aussie country singer Lucky Star...
