Sam Smith - The Thrill Of It All RE: 2017 "best albums" lists - Ruby - 24-12-2017 AllMusic has fairly extensive and comprehensive lists of their favourites, which they categorise, plus they have a general ‘Best of 2017’ - https://www.allmusic.com/year-in-review/2017/allmusic-best-of-2017. I quite like the categorisation idea - I’ll put a couple of them up as I get to them, and rate my own favs from their lists as well (despite not having listened to everything on those lists - nowhere near!). First category of my choice then … https://www.allmusic.com/year-in-review/2017/favorite-singer-songwriter Singer/Songwriter picks

Vince Staples - Big Fish Theory Ruby looking at your list doesn't it make you curious about all those you haven't heard? RE: 2017 "best albums" lists - Ruby - 26-12-2017 ^No, not much. I do listen to artists I’m not familiar with MH, but I'm selective. I know, firstly from the precis, and secondly after 30-60 seconds into a track whether or not it’s likely to be my thing, and if not, I just move on. Impossible to get to listen to every new release, and I don't want to, so I figure I may as well hear what I have a good chance of liking – makes life much more pleasant. Besides, I’m relying on you and CH to warn us about the rubbish! These lists are the editors’ favourites and the tip of the iceberg – and actually, I’m beginning to think they are so subjective as to be completely pointless. Everyone’s going to have their own favourites, I understand that, but at least two of mine don’t even show up here despite higher ratings (AllMusic ratings, that is) than some of those listed below, so it would be interesting to know what criteria they are using. Anyway ... in the grand scheme of things, this is all of very little consequence!! Favourite Folk & Americana Albums - https://www.allmusic.com/year-in-review/2017/favorite-folk-americana
