Analysis - 'Birds In The Trap Sing McKnight' by Travis Scott. - QMobs - 19-05-2018 'Birds In The Trap Sing McKnight' by Travis Scott. One of my favorite hip-hop albums to date has to be ingenious and yet controversial 'Birds In The Trap' by Travis Scott. I thought I would share my reasonings for that, in hopes that others who haven't heard the album would give it a listen; or those who have already would perhaps get more out of it and be given more insight on it. This is the second album by the Texas-born rapper, of which his first was 'Rodeo' (which was also a fantastic debut album). If I had to pin-point Travis Scott's style, it would be a cross between Kanye West and Kid Cudi. That style becomes very evident in this nocturnal and eerie second album. The production on this record is the key behind it's ethereal feel. Each song has a distinct sense of tone and rhythm, and I found several of the hooks to be memorable and hard-hitting. 'the ends', 'way back', and 'coordinate' are probably three of my favorite tracks off of the album. 'outside' and and 'lose' are also great and notable songs with a unique sound. It also goes without saying that the two big hits off this album; 'goosebumps' and 'pick up the phone' are fantastic, having a more upbeat sound than the other tracks. Unfortunately this album has some songs I think it would be better off without, such as 'beibs in the trap', 'sweet sweet', 'first take', and 'guidance', which were very underwhelming in my opinion and didn't match up to the musical prowess of the other tracks. Overall, I don't recall ever hearing any other music project with this original and distinct of sound or overall tone (with possibly the exception of Kanye West's '808s & Heartbreak'). It's very spacey, dark, and most-of-all: innovative. It stands at about 53 minutes with 14 tracks. When listening to this album, (preferably from start to finish) and it hits you at that right time, it's like being subjected to a euphoric journey through the most nocturnal depths of the deep space. 7/10. I highly recommend that anyone who has not heard this album gives it a listen. If you have heard the album, what are your thoughts on it? RE: Reminiscing on an old gem - 'Birds In The Trap Sing McKnight' by Travis Scott - CRAZY-HORSE - 20-05-2018 I gave the album listen..... too much of that vocorder/voice altering stuff for my liking... album wasn't really what I would buy neither.... on the plus side....it lacked a lot of the foul disgusting language that is part and parcel of 'the rap game', to cudo's to Travis Scott for that! It's definitely not your typical crude gangster rap, which is why I prefer it over many others. |
