I thought soft rock/easy listening better suits him than alternative...
31st studio album...
I own 17 plus two compilations, am ashamed I don't own them all...
songs have that late 1970s/early 1980s sound on the faster tracks...
lots of lovely slower songs on there too...
songs themselves are delicate little petals that drip bittersweet lyrics like
only Costello can do (and has successfully done his whole career...
he does not put a foot wrong anywhere on this album whatsoever...
album oozes class from start to finish...

I listened to those petals CH, and I see what you mean; I'm not particularly an EC fan, however this is a carefully and tastefully put together album - no missteps. I always think there’s such a lot to be said for restraint – knowing when to reign things back, and I expect that’s difficult to achieve – the mark of a mature artist who has absolutely no need to prove anything to anyone and who by virtue of all his hard won experience, is a master of his craft. There is no other way to get it right IMHO – it’s years and years of fine tuning.
Have to say, it did feel rather lengthy, and my attention wandered a bit towards the end, but still – I think I’d like to get my hands on this one. Thanks!

just received a Grammy for the album in the "traditional pop vocal" catagory
