Music & suicide - Drealm - 09-12-2009 I know this is a sad subject. But it happened: some people suicided themselves and later it was found that some music was playing while they were doing it. But I don't have example, and that's what I want to discuss. Do anybody know a specific example of this phenomena? My morbid side want to see "The sad list of albums chosen as suicide ritual". Music & suicide - Tiggi - 09-12-2009 I've always thought Dirge by Death in Vegas would be a good suicide soundtrack... Music & suicide - carbon_psycho - 09-12-2009 Placebo's Sweet Prince has something to do with suicide. Music & suicide - Palmer - 09-12-2009 There is a well publicized case of Judas Priest being sued by the families of two teens who shot themselves after listening to albums by Judas Priest. The suit charged there were subliminal messages in the tracks, which forced the boys to commit suicide (I canât remember, I think one survived, but later succumbed to his injuries). Anyway, the band was found innocent, but this isnât the first time rock (heavy metal) has been blamed for such action. Manson took the flack for fueling the teens who committed the Columbine massacre in Colorado, since they were avid Manson fans. And so it continues, and sadly I doubt we will see an end of it anytime soon. Perhaps not specifically what you were referring to, but I thought I would chime in. :blah::blah: Music & suicide - Drealm - 10-12-2009 Palmer Wrote:Perhaps not specifically what you were referring to, but I thought I would chime in. :blah::blah: No, it was what I was searching for. That makes me wonder if anyone ever suicided himself with pop music playing (in contrast to heavy metal)? The only way I could imagine that is someone who is totally bored with mainstream music and just can't stand anymore the mediocrity of commercial music; this, mixed with some really bad personal event. Music & suicide - Palmer - 10-12-2009 I still refuse to believe music, in its self (no matter the genre) can be held responsible for one taking such drastic action though. I am sorry, but after years and years of hearing rock and/or metal get the blame for many a depressed teen ending their life, and so called subliminal messages directing them to, it really is growing old with me. First off, IF artists were to put such messages into their music, you would think it would be to purchase more merch, NOT end their lives. HELLO?? One less fan to buy the merch .. ummm .. rather counter productive don't you think? But ..sorry ..I am making ligh of something, and I don't mean to. Point is, whether it's Judas Priest, Manson or Lady Gaga that finally makes one make such a decision, it's their own demons that brought them to that point, not the music. At least, that's what I think anyway. mile:

Considering that I actually am dying, I find the stupidity of somebody wanting to off theirselves because of what they are listening to just that - blatant stupidity. What sort of idiot (please forgive me for that comment) wants to bloody die in the first place. Much less because of the music they choose to listen to. I don't! :hand: Music & suicide - Drealm - 10-12-2009 Palmer Wrote:it's their own demons that brought them to that point, not the music. At least, that's what I think anyway. That's what I think too. Myself, I played a lot of shooters (videogames like Doom, where you just shoot anybody moving) when I was younger, listened to a lot of metal (death, black, anything you want) and all of this never really changed what I've always been, someone sweet-tempered and gentle. They never convinced me to "suicide" myself!! Music & suicide - Drealm - 10-12-2009 Beach Wrote:I'm sorry! I just want to say that what I written was a little exaggerated on the funny side, I don't really think that someone would really do that because of the music playing on the radio! It's just that sometime the music on the radio is so depressing...always talking about love that gone bad, losing the love of their life, never loving again:Cry:, always complaining...I was just imagining someone at the peak of this, going mad and suicide himself...just for laugh. Seriously, like I said is my previous post, I do think that it's more of inner demons that someone suicide himself, not just because of music. I agree with you that it is non-sense, as now, because of your situation, you realize how life is precious more that everyone here and how pathetic must look suicide from your point of view. By the way, I wish all the best for you. Music & suicide - CMB1888 - 10-12-2009 Is suicide used as a verb now? I'm not being facetious, I just wondered. |
