Now here's the part where I make what is likely to be an unpopular comment... I don't like Animal Collective. I don't like Merriweather Post Pavillion (well, okay I like probably two songs from it), and I don't particularly like their previous work either. I've tried and really do want to like them but just don't "get it." I feel like I'd have to be high in order to actually enjoy it, and I just shouldn't need any assistance in actually enjoying music. Thumbs up to the lists' inclusion of Neko Case, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, St. Vincent, Grizzly Bear, Bat For Lashes, Dead Weather, Phoenix, Girls, Tegan and Sara, Mos Def, and even Kiss (much better album than I could have expected from them) though. EDIT: I believe that Under the Radar's Best of 2009 and Best of the Decade lists are supposed to be out on the 18th btw. Best Music of 2009 - Music Head - 12-12-2009 ^^ Thanks for the heads up. Probably won't be able to keep up once they all start the flood. But I'll keep plugging away.:ranger: Best Music of 2009 - Dementia32 - 12-12-2009 Music Head Wrote:^^ Under the Radar is pretty much the only magazine subscription that I have, so I'd be more than happy to post their list here once I get my copy. mile:

Best Music of 2009 - JonG - 13-12-2009 Spin's list is as expected. No surprises. I do agree with their number one pick for album of the year. That is, if those 40 are the only ones to choose from. Best Music of 2009 - Drealm - 13-12-2009 This list of 40 best albums of the year makes me feel old. I've not even heard a single one of them. I realize I don't really follow musical trends. I am discovering new stuff, but not much, just some albums, often from the same artist that I want to dig up the full discography. There is so much music coming out, I wonder how someone can really follow the musical trends...just giving a good listen to these 40 albums would take me so much time that I don't even want to begin that. So it seems almost impossible to make a good choice, considering every other releases in addition to this list. That's crazy, there's simply too much music. I realize that the main source of new musical discovery is coming from people around me. A few albums are discovered at music stores listening station. So if people gave me all they could, I'm stuck. And I don't know where to begin new searching grounds. There's not a particular style I like more. For example, in the 40 list, how the hell can I know which one I could like apart listening everyone of them? That's too huge. And listening to radio don't give a good insight of music. I don't know what to do. I think I will just wait for some albums to show themselves in my life. Or just not the new album? :biggrin1: I see the other side of this. I am thrilled that there is more music out there than I can possibly consume. That way I never run out of new things to discover. I love hunting down new music to enrich my life. I get bored with the same sounds pretty easy. How to filter it all? There are many good magazines, websites and blogs out there. Some are better than others. There are those to suit any taste. And in this day of downloads you can most often sample music before acquiring the entire release. |
