NEW MUSIC FRIDAY 18.10.24 #3

NOTE: There were so many songs I sadly could not get to this week (I was so busy). Also, R.I.P. Liam Payne, love goes out to you and your family.

APT. - ROSÉ/Bruno Mars (5/10) wasn't expecting Bruno to be a feature on this type of song; Rose only has 2 million monthly listeners, and Bruno has 110 million (at the time of writing), and this is very different from a song Bruno would do. I thought this was alright and they matched energy well. The music video kind of made me cringe (can't lie), but this wasn't really bad. It's just what it is, and I honestly don't know why Bruno got on a song like this; it sounded like something from a kids animation TV show.

Spring Breakers, Charlixcx/Kesha (2/10) Oh, I beg, just quit BRAT summer. You have been dragging this on way past summer now; it's autumn and heading to November. This is well past ridiculous; the music isn't even good either; it's the same glitchy, scratchy electropop that makes you want to rip your eardrums out. Kesha really gave the cringe to this; seeing that it's coming from a woman who really doesn't know how to make music, I'm not surprised; this belongs in the trash.

No Me Cansare, Sevdaliza/Karol G (5/10) They blend well together, and this has a light yet noticeable chorus, and Karol G's gentle voice really helps with this song.

Piece of My Heart, Wizkid/Brent Faiyaz (5/10) I think this is a song you can get bored of quite easily; it honestly needs more of a hook.

Love Somebody, Morgan Wallen (7/10) I really like Morgan's stuff, and he continues to impress with this; the guitar works really well with the production and is a good base for Morgan's voice to sing on. The heartfelt lyrics sound genuine and fit really well with the sound.

That's So True, Gracie Abrams (6/10). - Congrats there, Gracie. I don't usually like your stuff, and honestly, I still think you're a Taylor Swift ripoff, but this was actually good, and I liked how the beat blended well and was correctly paced with the vocals, and the overall structure of the song gave me a feel that I liked.

Forever Young - David Guetta/Alphaville/Ava Max (3/10) David just makes remixes now because he's too lazy to continue his actual career; all he does is take an old song, slap his sound on it (a lot of the time, not even put the original artist in the artist section), and think it's gold. This is far from gold; it's poop. Everything this guy comes out with is joke after joke. You're the biggest French artist; show some effort!! I'm shocked he gets as much traction as he does. Who lied to this man and said he was good?

Modo Capone: Chino Pacas/Drake/Fuerza Regida (5/10) I don't think this team-up should've even happened; their styles are sadly so far apart that I don't think they could make a perfect song. I believe it's possible, but I don't think they would have the brains to pull that off.

LOVE, MONEY, FAME - SEVENTEEN/Dj Khaled (6/10) I'm glad two artists who wouldn't usually sound good together actually did. Despite Dj Khaled's allegations, I do have to hand this to him though. The flow on this sounds enough like K-pop to work with Seventeen but also sounds enough like something new so that it's not the same thing that they have always been doing—a decent track!

Holding On, Bailey Zimmerman (6.5/10) This is such a powerful, in-depth song that I have to respect this, and I knew Bailey could do this, but he did it better than I thought. This really gave me a feel in my heart, and I couldn't even relate to it. That's how you know it's great.

Empire, Dean Lewis (5/10) He could've done something more unique; let's be real.

Sweet Delusion, Bella Poarch (6/10) This had its moments and wasn't bad. I just don't think this stuff will give Bella another hit song.

Last Summer: FAST BOY/Moby/Sophie And The Giants (6/10) - This is good, but more could've been added, and plus, this should've also been released in the summer.

Opportunist, Lil Durk (3/10) Just how I like my rap, autotune, mumbly, and low effort. Durk, there is time to quit your music career. You've defended horrible people, have gross lyrics, and are massively short of having another hit. This was as disappointing as your last 3 SINGLES. Yes, 3!!

Holidays: Conan Grey (6.5/10) The gentleness in Conan's voice gave me a feel like no other; this is the meaning of soft music fit for the ears!! It's so simple, and that's what I like to see—not overcomplicated or over the top, just what's needed.

Someone For Me, Kylie Minogue (5/10) At least it's better than 'Lights Camera Action,' but it's still not amazing, and I feel Kylie's career is fading further and further into the dark. I'm starting to wonder if we will ever get another Padam Padam moment. The Tension II opening songs do not match the Tension first album opening songs.

Take A Bow: Jelly Roll/Halsey (5/10)

Put A Little Hurt On Me—Rag'N'Bone Man (5/10) - This didn't feel as strong as his previous album openers; this needed a little more oomph and energy for me, but it lacked that. Rag Is a good artist, and I'm looking forward to hearing the whole album, but this is the first midpoint I've heard from it.

STFU: Yeat (2.5/10) Since the cover has monster trucks, police cars, burning houses, and you in some gang costume, I know you were going for the "Let's look super cool for the kids!" And "I feel so cool and gangsta." No, this rap is so mumbly and unappealing in the production that I can't understand a single word. I'm just gobsmacked you thought this single would even be a repeater for anyone. You cannot make good music.

Options: Jordan Adetunji/Lil Baby (5/10) I'll give them this; then working together isn't terrible, but sadly, their styles didn't infuse as much as I wanted them to; it's like a puzzle with a missing piece; one part was the changed voice in the production, which sounded like a TikTok radio edit, and then we had rough rapping. The song didn't connect into parts as it should and was either way a weak song with no hook to draw you in; I guess that's basically ever Lil Baby song though, and as for you, Jordan, please make something good for once. Is this really going to be an artist who reaches a new low with every new release?

Feel the Passion, D.O.D./Charlotte Haining (5/10) Just your average radio 1 type dance song; it honestly lacked any type of new spike; it just felt like the same drink poured again.

Perfect Stranger: FKA Twigs (5/10) I would like to appreciate how much timing and cut scenes went into this music video to make it what it is. As for the song, it does work for FKA and doesn't have any huge problems in its structure, but for me there could've been more than this.

DEGENERE: Myke Towers/Benny Blanco (5/10)

Most Beautiful Design: Coco Jones/London On Da Track/Future (4.5/10)

No Bad Vibes - Jazzy/KILIMANJARO (6/10) This was a decent collaboration. I reckon this has the power to get a radio 1 song of the week, seeing what they usually pick. I feel Jazzy blended well with the unusual style (which is different for her typical) and she adapted to it well. I'll respect this.

Winter Baby/New Jersey Blue: 070 Shake (5/10)

Freedom of the Night, Sophie Ellis Bextor (8/10) Wow, this truly was spectacular, and each moment of the song felt unique in feel, and it's in its own way. Sophie is truly rocking the dance. Vibes of this, and I'm all for it!! Heck yeah, more of this, please. This is what we need!!

Both Ways, Juice Wrld (4/10)

Fantasy - JADE (5/10) - The music video was really weird for this around the 2:40 mark.. onto the actual track. I never liked anything solo for JADE, and this continues that. It's just an average Poppy production song that sounds like a cheap radio song. I don't really have a dislike for it; I just think it's the type of sound you would hear in a shopping advertisement.

made it out of Mexico—acoustic—Ella Langley (6/10)—Ella nailed the guitar version.

HIM ALL ALONG, Gunna (5/10) Not a clue what he was saying, but this was catchy, and the way the vocals flow makes it even more catchy.

Muse - Isabel LaRosa (5/10): This reminds me of Nessa Barett but slow moving. The electropop pulses combined with her voice that sounds fit for a slow moving romantic club song, Muse to me wasn't as meaningful as I felt a lot of "Girl Pop" artists have done this before, but I wouldn't call it bad. Just don't say you see God in their eyes in a song like this; it's kind of cringe.

First Rodeo - Kelsie Ballerini (7/10): This is my new most memorable Kelsie song; the lyrics matched the expression that the song was trying to make you feel, and I think they picked the correct tune for this. This isn't my first rodeo listening to Kelsie, and it won't be my last either. Thanks for the moment of peace yet with an actual feel that is strong.

Good Times - Koe Wetzel (5.5/10)

Confession: Loe Shimmy/Cash Cobain (2/10) I hate that this level of cr*p is allowed in music today. The autotune at the start actually was ear splitting; it sounded like you got a newborn baby to cry into the microphone, then you go rambling on about some classic rap stuff. I guess women and parties, at least with the level of murmurering in this is honestly a joke. I have a genuine hate for this song, and I think everyone else will because this is a piece of garbage music.

Time: Aodhán King/Lauren Daigle (6/10)

SO TRU: Confidence Man (5/10) This was different but still didn't give me a moment.

Way Out The Hood, Lil Tjay (3/10) This girl belongs on the Internet doing toy reviews, not being a gangsta girl who's flexing cash. I remember seeing this girl doing satanic hand symbols and swearing at 14 years old while flexing cash. What has this world come to? Goodness me, seek help, not just with your career but with your mental health; the actual rap is just the same chewed-up rap thing for anything.

Strength (R U Ready)—The Blessed Madonna/Joy Crookes (6/10) I was expecting something the same and average, but I actually liked this and thought it was different.

The Riddler: Bugzy Malone (4/10) This is disappointing; it's just pure.. pure.. what even is this? It's just really samey and just ugh.
That's A Mistake, Riley Green (6/10).

Sick: Jeramih/4Batz (4/10) This is the same repetitive radio rap rubbish, really? This is what you release; this is equivalent to a filler song on an album.

DISCO: Nessa Barett/Tommy Genesis (5.5/10) Nessa is actually releasing good tunes lately, and even I have been getting into her. Glad this didn't sway far away and is something that I still like!

Welcome To The Plains, Wyatt Flores (6/10) The instrumentals on this matched the pace perfectly, and Wyatt's voice has that consistent style that builds the song noticeably.

Evicted - Nemzzz (3/10) - Oof, this is the same low effort garbage that comes out of UK rap; at least switch things up; even the lyrics are just straight up cringe.

ROCKMAN, Mk.gee (3/10) Why are there unnecessary cuts replaced with the melody in-between the song? This sounds like a 2:57 loop of the same thing; the only noteable difference is the eagle sound effect near the end, which makes it seem like this was made for brainrot purposes, a disappointing song that isn't even worthy of a TikTok mention.

Southbound: Maddox Batson (/10) I can tell you're trying to do something different for the country pop style song, but it's not good. Not trying to be rude here, but your voice isn't that good. I don't know. If this is natural but it sounds like an old woman in pain when your voice peaks in the song, not even production could revive this. I'm shocked this got a place on New Music Friday because, wow.. how do you even have fans?

Cats On The Ceiling, Ruel (6/10) Your vocals remind me of someone, but I can't pinpoint who that is. I like how you sound fit for the song with the mastering behind the scenes and how your voice was placed correctly.

Dreamstate, Kelly Lee Owens (2/10): This is so repetitive it's equivalent to junk; this is 5:30. Of the same sound and a woman saying Dreamstate over it, it does change at 3:00 or so, but still, Can we please try and make good music? This is actually so cheap and poor my brain is having trouble to how this woman is on new music Friday; it's literally me buying a cheap beat online and saying the same word over it for this long. Or maybe it's a hypnosis ritual because a woman starts screaming eerily at the end, which gave me the spooks.

Raver Girl, Jordana (5/10) This is not getting played in a club no matter how much you push it; it just doesn't have that feel. There is the old synth sound on this, but it's really nothing special. You gave it a go though, and it's not bad.

Defence: Panda Bear/Cindy Lee (4/10) - I honestly don't care about this and will not care ever. I wish this was faster.

the cost of giving up - Poppy (5/10) - This is unsettling. Well, it's supposed to scream like that because it's hard rock, but I usually like it more. I wish I could've; there should be more to this.

Attaway - Phantogram (5/10): This was alright for what it was but just felt very basic and lacked creativity and difference from others in a lot of categories.

ADDICTED—CKay/The Cavemen. (5/10) - Just your average African song.
