BALLOONERISM - Mac Miller - Mellope Album Review - Mellope - 21-01-2025 BALLOONERISM - Mac Miller - Mellope Album Review OVERVIEW: This is a weird drop, the album's first half is almost unbearable but in the second half it picks up and gets better and arguably takes you on some amazing journeys! At the end the low scores just outnumbered the high scores which led to it being rated what it was. One thing I can applaud is that every aspect of this album felt like Mac was trying for a new sound and experimenting for the perfect moment, I can tell he's hungry to learn and puts a lot of meaning into his music, along with dumb lyrics aswell (Read on to find out what) Also R.I.P to you Mac Miller ✌️ 1. Tambourine Dream (3/10) A 30 second disorganised album intro that sounded like a baby randomly playing with a tambourine, terrible intro. 2. Dj's Chord Organ Ft. SZA (2.5/10) How do people listen to this? This is the first time I've rated SZA anywhere near this low, I get there going for an experimental song where you soak in what's happening slowly but its all just dull and feels like it's missing so much more potential! This sounds like a Mac filler song. 3. Do You have a Destination (4/10) Well it Fits the blandless doesn't it? It takes part abstract music and tries to turn it Mac Miller, but it ends up sounding failed, this really isn't for me. 4. 5 Dollar Pony Rides (4/10) I tried listening to this countless times in different environments and came to the conclusion that people are only rating him high because he passed away. Since his death, on rating sites like AOTY, all his new albums have been labeled as "must-hear" and rated much higher. To be honest, this track is just bad. I'm never one to rate out of sympathy, but this sounds like an experimental studio draft—worthless and forgettable. 5. Friendly Hallucinations (5/10) Mr Miller produces another filler Sounds boring, for fun this is a killer Abstract rap? No abstract crp The bass is to simple (To flat) It sounds like a jumble of noises (That's crp) Maybe buy some other producers (Because this ain't that) Honestly rather listen to J.Schlatt. 6. Mrs. Deborah Downer (3/10) This tries to be gentle while intertwining with the soul but just ends up sounding like it slithers itself to the end despite being rubbish, this is such a dissapointing track. 7. Stoned (3.5/10) Sadly a decent beat ruined by Mac's voices, I don't even know why he sounds like this, it sounds like he's letting out a small moan when he sings "stoooooned" and the way he goes about performing this track just doesn't even feel like the production itself, embarrassing! 8. Shangri-La (4/10) This song showcases how Miller's bars are sometimes not smooth and messy, he speaks about selling his life away when really he should just sell this music away, boring song. 9. Funny Papers (5.5/10) This died on me so much from the first listen. I previously wrote: This is a very cool drop. The keyboards and drums create a new sound in the music industry and give a strong reason to listen to Mac’s new album. The lyrics are well-picked, and the whole song rushes with creativity! A pleasant listen. But now the albums got you in such a bad state of mind that it's hard to get you out of it, this was decent but not to good. 10. Excelsior (7/10) Miller explores the stress free days of being a child and for once this is actually great! It takes you on a alternative- psychedelic journey, it shows music in a new light and that's what makes this what it is! I really dislike the lyrics though: "Little Timmy broke his arm again on the monkey bars Johnny's dad got a nicer car than all the other kids He becomes the alpha and picks on everybody else" What even is this. 11. Transformations Ft. Delusional Thomas (1/10) With lines such as "Your btch is like a bad fart, all she do is linger"* and "Who's the rapper with the gold pnis"* 'Transformations' includes annoying voice changes that sound as if someone was inhaling different gases before speaking, the end result of this song sounds more like a muck around then a release but I'm shocked that real people thought this was good. If you like this music then you are insane, this is contending for worst song of 2025. 12. Manakins (6.5/10) And interesting track that delves into religious views and maintains its unique quality's! The lyrics represent the song and give it a clear production, this is definitely a keeper! 13. Rick's Piano (7/10) The track title referred to the time Mac went to Rick Rubin's house to play keyboard and sobered up and the track itself is has varied piano notes played that create a scene along with "the best is yet to come" it really fits as a solid work on the album. 14. Tomorrow Will Never Know (8.5/10) Wow, he could of fit anything into this song due to the amazing build, this is art. This feels like something that would take you into a magical journey while you fall asleep, a song that goes deeper then deep, a song that defines a movement. Possibly the best album outro I have ever heard. BEST: Tomorrow Will Never Know WORST: Transformations Ft. Delusional Thomas ALBUM RATING: 4/10 |
