YouTube audio Encoding - pennywill - 14-04-2010
Sheesh! I'm really struggling with whatever codec YouTube uses for audio. A year ago they had a gruesome one, then suddenly it was really really good. Then they started with the whole HD thing, and mucked up the audio again. Grrr... I've tried everything to have it sound like the original mp3 once it's encoded, but no good.
I've tried mono, lowering the bit rate to practically nothing, raising the volume, lowering the volume, raising the bit rate, trying acc rather than mp3, and also tried wav, re-encoded directly from cool edit, simply put the mp3 in after the fact. I also have tried to record several different ways, using different mics and doing no audio processing. I think YouTube simply doesn't like the sound of the flute. :biggrin: It must have some harmonics that the new codec doesn't like. I read somewhere where they were tying to "help" make better sound recordings...kinda like the 'paper clip' - I see you're playing a song...would you like some help?

I think it has to do with 10khz and 16khz and if they are out of phase or something. If Those two frequency ranges are reduced or eliminated, it seems to solve the problem. Just if anyone else is having the same problem.

Ok, I lied, the 10Khz thing didn't work out. Here's an example of what I'm talking about:
