Are You Really Musically Adventurous ? - gryphon - 07-08-2010

I'm very curious to know about this !

Do you class yourself as adventurous in your musical listening?

If you say yes , how do you go about justifying he answer of yes?

WE are a music discussion forum and as such many new ideas and suggestions are present in our postings.

Have any of the postings you have read, made any difference to your listening patterns?

If so what differences?

Have you ever read something on MD that has changed your view of a band/artist ?

If so would you tells us about the experience ?

What albums have you read about on MD, that have tempted you to listen to the thing yourself?

What artists have you found out about on MD that you have gone further with?

Please share some feedback on this as I think it will be an most enlightening topic !!!!!!!!!! Cool

Are You Really Musically Adventurous ? - Tiggi - 08-08-2010

Yes, because I'll listen to almost anything. The areas where I don't bother to spend much time are Metal, Hip-Hop, modern R&B, & manufactured Pop.
Even these are not completely off the radar, but these types of artist are few & far between in my music collection.

On the previous version of Music Discussion there was a "Recommend Something I May Not Have Heard" thread, & JonG and an occasional member here by the name of Dogbreath kept me in top recommendations for a couple of years. Dozens & dozens of purchases bought directly as a result of MD recommendation. Too many to list.

I still pick up albums from here, including some of Music Head's discoveries, some of the less esoteric JonG Electronica recommendations, and assorted suggestions from other members. I'll usually only treat recommendations seriously if they come from someone whose musical tastes appear sound.

You're right Griff, that this is a good resource for new musical ideas...

I feel like I could have written what Tiggi just did.
Of course he has been around here much longer than I have, therefore has more to base his experiences on.
Since I have joined I listen to more "new" music than I did previously.
I have always enjoyed listening to new releases more than stuff I have already heard.
I will listen to what others post only if they post a link to do so which is why I post as many clips as I do.
There are exceptions to that rule if it is from a member who I know that we share the same taste in music.

I listened to a lot of suggestions I read here.

But in the end (I realize I'm very picky about new discoveries), only one album really grabbed me, as now I really like it, sure I will dig further in the band discography:

Novembers Doom - The Pale Haunt Departure

This was suggested to me by Erixouther among other suggestion when I first came here searching for new things to discover. It's a metal band. And it was a while I did not found a new band in this genre, because I don't search a lot in the genre. Thanks!

Imagine a science lab with test tubes filled with music.
Personally, I would take a good dollop of Dizzy Gillespie, add 27ml of Jimi Hendrix (no more or the whole thing will explode),

a slurp of Tchaikovsky, and a potent dose of Pink Floyd with a dash of Simon and Garfunkel.
Carefully heat over a flame and observe …we are the band Social Science. We are musically adventurous.

We love music that is all and enjoy the process of creating it. We are interested in interaction and getting feedback on our ideas and concepts. Our post was merely an insight into our band. We will obey all rules of the forums.

Perhaps your next move would be to be a little more realistic about yourselves . Respect is something that can be earned by demonstrating what you can do and letting others form their own opinions about your talents .................................................... :biggrin:Cool

i think im open to listening to almost anything, even death metal, i havent found any death metal i can say ive liked as yet.
mr.soul has given me 1 or 2 artists to check out, i have done the same with tiggi
im impressed with what mr.soul gave me, hope tiggi finds a couple of the aussie artists i recomended to him good enough to download or buy a cd.

this is the good thing about music sites like this one, we look, we read, we take note, and we sometimes venture out on our own to assess these artists.
