not so much a review as such, but ive managed to listen to the entire album. firstly, i know nothing of this bands previous recordings.
overall, i like this album, would probably give it a rating of 7/10 from one listen. thought all the tracks were good, both lyrically and musically. 'younger than america' is laced with guitars similar to those found on neil young's 'ragged glory' set and lyrically similar to his 'greendale' set, for a neil young fan it made me curious to keep listening, being as this was the first track on the album. a couple of the songs, 'city hall' and 'post electric' had shades of Gaslight Anthem. 'dreams of nothing' reminiscent of Oasis album tracks from their last couple of outings. the harmonies were great on 'bring you back to life'. the rest of the album was quite good also. the best tracks after one listen were 'city hall' and 'all over the town'. i do like this album and am keen to delve into their back catalogue. if the rest of their albums are of this quality then, i think idlewind are underrated and deserve more success than they have got.
as i said, this isnt really a thorough review, but it is one a.m and i am tired, so hope this helps anyone who is curious about this album
