PC slips to another low! - CRAZY-HORSE - 28-11-2010 well, the PC do-gooders have done it again. Happy Christmas is now termed 'happy holiday', we also have 'holidays by candlelight' instead of 'christmas carol singing'. the 'piggies' are to be removed from nativity scenes incase it offends other cultures...even though we live in a European Christian society. children are not allowed to sit on Santas knee in shopping centres. shops are not allowed to put up decorations because not everyone celebrates the Birth of Christ. our children are missing out on traditions that have endured for generations! where has the christmas spirit gone? why can people emigrate to a country then not accept the traditions and history when they get there? im sorry, well not really!, but theres an old saying that still holds true to me: "WHEN IN ROME,DO AS THE ROMANS DO" PC sucks and has no commonsense attached to it! i dont care if youre black, white, red, yellow, straight, gay, islamic, christian, jewish, buddhist or anything else as when it comes down to it were all human and living on the same rock hurtling through space. everyone needs to respect eachother, but not to the point of losing ones heritage and history. PC slips to another low! - gryphon - 28-11-2010 You are quite right about when in ROME! I guess I am a bit unusual in living in a land that I was not born in ............... However, we don't really have the PC brigade here...................Strangely enough I live in the Catholic South of the Netherlands but the religious fever died years ago.................This is a country which count it's official religion as N/A ( Not applicable ) BUT we have full Christmas celebrations ( And other religious ones if it is between consenting adults !!!!so to speak ) I can sit on Santa's lap if he approves and so can my friends no matter what their religion . We actually have two Christmas days as you are supposed to ( 25 Dec and 5 Dec) ....... AS I say as long as you comply here you are welcome..................I live as Dutch person speak Dutch , drive on the left , spend my Euros ( When I have any ). The Dutch, Belgians , Germans and any other people I treat me a friend but are always interested in my background.................THe only people who think I'm different are native Brits some think it is odd that I can live in another land and not miss all things English and the fact that I speak another language..............how can I ? Sadly in the last ten years there ae some who want to change the tolerances here, but in recent moths they ave been shown up for what they are and are not popular ......... Look into the papers and articles about Gert Wilders..............the slightly right wing man who is nicknamed Motzart ) .
PC slips to another low! - CRAZY-HORSE - 28-11-2010 i had heard the name 'gert wilders' before, but checked out wiki, some of his ideas/phillosophies make perfect sense to me, others however, cross the line into Fascism, but hey, im not going to criticise or praise him for his thoughts because your society is your society and every country has its own baggage!, at the moment ours is the PC brigade, we do have other problems but this isnt a political forum so i'll keep my views to myself. whats the purpose of two Xmas'? PC slips to another low! - gryphon - 28-11-2010 In late Nov Santa Claus arrives in Holland after his trip from Turkey. On Dec 5 ( Packjes avond ) we all get presents !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Then on Dec 25 we celebrate The Birth Of Jesus and again we get presents.. Here the Catholic church separated the present giving Santa Claus ( A generous Turkish Bishop!) from the Christmas part.............other countries put them together. Its part of the fact that The Dutch are a nation or seamen/traders are brought in the Eastern Asian influences from their trades in the spies from the East . Kids love both but It can be expensive ! PC slips to another low! - CRAZY-HORSE - 28-11-2010 interesting, thanks. gotta learn somthing new everyday i say, so there it is...i can switch my brain off until tomorrow LOL PC slips to another low! - pennywill - 28-11-2010 PC slips to another low! - Music Head - 28-11-2010 As I think I'm always saying very good penny - thanks PC slips to another low! - CRAZY-HORSE - 28-11-2010 WARNING! language may offend if you're PC! PC slips to another low! - Music Head - 28-11-2010 ^^ hilarious The bit about the beeping of a vehicle backing up. aw! humans are idiots PC slips to another low! - CMB1888 - 28-11-2010 I don't know about this. I think that it's up to the individual to keep their own traditions alive -I wouldn't feel comfortable telling anyone what they can and cant keep of their background no matter where they live. As regards organisations replacing 'Christmas' with 'Holidays', I feel a little bit put out when that happens cos I love Christmas but organisations usually respond to what their customers want so maybe a bit of consumer pressure can change things. I also think that Christmas being 'demoted' also seems to be a symptom of increasing secularisation rather than direct competition from other religions but I confess I don't have a problem with this particular aspect. |
