I was reading this forum, look at some comments eying my own music collection and reading "Down The Highway" The Life Of Bob Dylan............By Howard Sounds
One or two things got me thinking
- Apparently you can get bootleg copies of Bob Dylan's answerphone messages
- My own collection will give you access to nearly everything the Beatles committed to tape.
- An old friend of mine's musical material on youtude has been removed by Universal records...........
- Many of the last two decades biggest grossing products have been retrospective issues of out takes , unused material and left overs ( Bob Dylan Johnny Cash The Beatles etc
Where does the artists' control come in? What are the rights of copywriters to say what we can and can not have ?

I usually restrict myself to officially sanctioned material.
Even with Pink Floyd, I've heard a couple of live bootlegs and haven't been impressed, so tend to avoid them. Rarities are only of occasional interest.
Who owns the copyright ? To me it's the artist and/or the publishers and/or the record company. Whoever holds the copyright has the legal right to control what's OK in the public domain, and what isn't.
I'm probably quite old-fashioned...

Wow $1M is a huge amount. What about those songs that is uploaded and can be downloaded through peer to peer like in torrent? Can they sue those persons who uploaded the songs?
