To quote Keith Richards ............The Beatles moved everyone from Singles to albums! They moved outside the 2 mins 30 seconds single track world ! Pick an album you feel is overrated and underrated from the last 5 decades - SteveO - 15-08-2011 I nearly choked on my apple !!!! All Beatle albums Overrated !!!!!! To each his own I guess, it's your opinion Ibrahim !....maybe you knew you'd stir something up?...lol Here goes:...mostly artists not albums...if I felt that the artist was overrated I didn't know much about their albums any road 1960s Overrated: I can't think of any....the music was too good....I was there when it was happening ! Underrated: anything by the Kinks 1970s Overrated: Metallica Underrated: Jethro Tull - A Passion Play 1980s Overrated: Sisters of Mercy Underrated:Richard Thompson 1990s Overrated: Metallica Underrated: Pink Floyd - The Division Bell 2000s Overrated: Metallica Underrated: Opeth and Agalloch Pick an album you feel is overrated and underrated from the last 5 decades - CRAZY-HORSE - 16-08-2011 mtthwibrahim Wrote:60's i love this thread you have started and the obvious discussion that a couple of your answers are/have already given but........ my opinion differs to yours and is along the same lines as Gryphon when describing the Beatles albums as being overrated! likewise from the 1970's...."whats going on", i felt it was a landmark achievement for social and political comment by a "black" artist from a "black man's" point of view. 1980's....it wasnt just The Joshua Tree that was underrated IMHO as i feel 90% of U2's material and status in music is grossly overrated!!! 1990's....Oasis basically spearheaded Britpop with their first two albums and inspired many a young band from the UK from '95/'96 onwards, i felt they also gave so-called "safe" music the kick in the arse it needed as music was going nowhere between 88-94, i also feel they were as important to music back in the day as the Sex Pistols were back in 1977. still on the 1990's....the Finn Brothers have been considered underrated by the general public since their earliest days in Split Enz...but thanks for acknowledging their "underrated" tag!!! BRAVO!!! for starting an interesting and thoughtprovoking thread my friend! Many people believe The Beatles' Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band was the first, but it was preceded by many other albums that meet the definition, including The Velvet Underground's first album.
