What music genres would you like to explore or have little knowledge of ? - SteveO - 15-08-2011 I have sparse knowledge of contemporary genres in pop,dance,hip hop,country,classical and folk but I am trying to keep up. I am currently interested in British folk music. I appreciate all genres of music so I am always interested in new sounds. It becomes overwhelming at times however since I don't just focus in on one artist or genre,,,I'm all over the place except for the genres mentioned previously. Check out some contemporary jazz Toshiko Akiyoshi & Lew Tabackin Orchestra !!!,Anthony Braxton, Jan Garbarek, Charles Lloyd, AEC, Tomasz Stanko,Chic Corea, Jon Hassel, Keith Jarrett, Jack DeJohnette, Pat Metheny, Charlie Haden, Egberto Gismonti, Meredith Monk, Jon Balke, Michael Formanek and Carla Bley & Orchestra...... for starters...if you want more I can suggest more but start with these for now. You may find something interesting there. This is jazz from the mid seventies to the present day. Charles Mingus deserves his place in the Pantheon for this, if nothing else (and, natch, there was plenty, plenty else). |
