Has music become all about concerts? - tuned circuit - 18-09-2011

I keep hearing about how all the money in music these days is made by doing concerts, and I can see how that would true in this economic recession when more and more people would be looking into ways to download music without paying for it.

But if ninety percent of your music is electronically produced, it's hard to imagine what you would do on stage.. smile and wave?

Still, I'm hoping that since I'm just starting out, what works against me could also work for me: I'm not known yet, so there would be nowhere to download me from except my own website where it's encrypted unless you buy it.

So, while I don't imagine getting wildly rich selling music online, I am still hoping that I can at least make some kind of supplementary income if people like my music. Does this sound logical?

(BTW, I just realized that my profile still links to an old webpage that I am unable to delete.. anyway please understand that I'm not asking for any evaluations of MY music, just asking about trends of music in general, just so that's clear.)

The Money is definably in live performance, the collapse in the monopoly of recording companies and the ability of people to record using simple computer technology has seen to that............There is still some money in downloads if correctly managed and websites to distribute one's own CDs can produce something ............however artists have turned from the recorded medium unless they are big.

Yes....my musician friends say so and they and no one else would know ...The Music Makers and the poor fan who still pay huge amounts of cash to see them live !!!!!

The main concern now is the availability of enough large or small concert venues !!!!

( The Compact Disc in their opinion is "on its' way out" ).

So purely electronic music may be a dying genre as music becomes performance oriented. Interesting how technology, while making possible a larger variety of sounds and genres, ends up at the same time limiting those same sounds and genres out of the marketplace. Money vs art, money wins.

Not really, electronic music can be performed live - Klaus Schulze is a perfect example of how it can and should be done

Yes there are several Live Electronic acts....one being Scientists of Sound from my home town.,,,, now touring China, because that's where the demand is and there's los of moula to be made !!!!

Who wants to be a musician or any other artist and make no money ??? That's stupid logic !!!! I think all artists want to be appreciated and renumerated in some capacity and that renumeration in our society is MONEY !!!!
