How will rock n' roll be remembered? - SteveO - 17-07-2012

Rock n' Roll as we know it is only in its' infancy at a mere sixty years old. Very young compared to the 600 year history of Classical music.

How will rock be remembered decades from now? What musicians will stand out above the tens of thousands of others?

I truly believe that The Beatles namely the music of Paul McCartney and John Lennon will stand the test of time. There is an argument for other artists I'm sure...Bob Dylan for one!

I think the artists that will be remembered best in the future is the ones that helped shape the genre in its beginning. Bands such as The Beatles, Led Zeppelin and Jimi Hendrix. Furthermore i believe that Rock & Roll always will be associated with innovation, rebelion towards authority and break from tradition.

hasn't r&r morphed into more of a hip-hop genre which will in turn morph into something else,,,and in the future hendrix and zep will be just side notes of this history

IMHO , Lennon and McCartney will not be "side notes", I'm sure! As for rock n roll "morphed " into hip hop, there still remains a very healthy and active rock n' roll genre!

Rock and rollers will remember less of our music than legit and classical listeners as the rockers have smoked a whole lot more pot!

I think if you look back through rock history the main inovators like the beatles, hendrix ,dylan and other people that helped to shape the genre right from early on and also people like chuck berry at the start have been a large factor but then later on with heavy metal ,punk and indie indie people like led zeppelin for heavy rock the pistols and the clash for punk and later jesus jones , the godfathers oasis and blur for indie.. I have come to the conclusion that rock and roll is an evolving creature in its many forms and it is still evolving and changing and it will continue to do so for a very long time . but its still rock and roll and i love it.
