Paulâs coming out with a 3-disc cd/dvd standard edition and a 4-disc deluxe version with a bonus dvd of his live performance âGood Evening New York City!â I really canât believe the longevity of this man. It really shows the true merit of a musician when they are able to continue on in their music career year after year, decade after decade and produce quality music. As far as I can tell, McCartney has been a rock throughout his career. After everything with The Beatles, the tragic death of some of those members and even the personal battles we donât know about, Paul McCartneyâs music is reaching a status that is sure to continue to leave a profound historical mark on music worldwide. The man seems unstoppable! I unfortunately wasnât able to attend the show in New York, but there is no way that Iâm going to miss out on this combo phenomenon! I've already pre-ordered it on Amazon. Not me. I'm not into marketing gimmicks. A new studio album from Sir Paul sure, but not this rubbish.
But I do have to ask why you would put him in country and folk. You're not davecountryz.

For me, Macca hasn't done anything of interest for decades, which is odd considering the magnificence of his Beatles stuff.
On a personal level, his "thumbs up", everyman persona grates on me.
Given that he's written & recorded some of the 20th Centuries' greatest songs though, it seems churlish to criticise...

just been looking through some old threads, from before i joined and found this one.
that thumbs up thing gets to me also Tiggi, but come on!!! Macca has made some fantastic albums since the Beatles, some of his finest tunes ever are his solo album tracks 'through our love', 'its not true' and 'beautiful night' spring straight to mind. i think John,Paul and George have made some very good solo material...but comparing it to their partnership in the 1960s its always going to look ordinary, i truly believe most artists would love to make a Paul McCartney quality album...melodic,tuneful,nice lyrics

Looking at Macca over the 40 years since the end of the Beatles, it is true to say that he has written some great songs . However, a close examination of his work shows that he has also produced low quality things into the bargain..........The problem is he plays at being a great song writer. John Lennon could criticize Macca when he was producing something below quality and John Lennon being what he was was difficult for him to ignore. Paul could not white wash this gut easily, he was his equal in most things................However, when John was further away from him Macc acould let his ego run riot.....................AS he was one half of a great song writing team he must be good eh and no-one was going to tell him otherwise ..................Trouble was Macca needed Lennon or someone to do quality control .................without that all the rubbish flowed too. Add to that the ego that says hey people would buy anything that an ex-beatle does and out comes the cynical marketing machine that is Macca...................Lets look at putting out as many different issues of a single or an album etc and make the money out of the fans who are fanatics............. THis has debased his currency and left him with some great songs and achievements and some real embarissing things...................The one things a great artist needs is good self evaluation and with Macca...................That's lacking

I can only base my opinions on what I've heard, and what I've heard since about '73/'74 is some woeful releases.
Given his track record with The Beatles, I'd imagine that there is some good stuff that he's released since, but I'm not tantalised enough to explore it all.
It's odd that so many of the '60s musical icons have gone on to produce complete bilge (that's a general point, not directed specifically at Macca :biggrin  ...

1. i really like 'band on the run' Jerome,havent listened to it for a few years since i got the 25th anniversary version edition
2.Gryphon: in general,as with Lennon, they both made albums that were half great,half ok tracks....i think they needed eachother. one of Maccas best albums is 1989 'flowers in the dirt'...at that time he was co-writing with Elvis Costello so he had someone to bounce ideas off and Elvis is not one to back off from giving his opinion...like Lennon, so that album worked a treat!
3. back to the original post: the 'good evening NYC' dvd is a brilliant watch,shows Macca can still rock it better than most ot the young turks out there
