Dave Alvin is normally associated with blues/Americana music and if you go back far enough rockabilly (The Blasters), but his latest release is none of these. Third Mind could be considered progressive, jazz or any number of things.

^^Thanks for the heads up on this one R_burke. I know of Dave Alvin and I know he's well respected, but I have never paid him much attention - tried something once which just didn't stick and don't recall why not! This sounds interesting - I will definitely have a listen.

I listened. Hadn't realised these were mostly covers except "Claudia Cardinale" which oddly enough, is probably my favourite. I don't mind the covers either except "Morning Dew" doesn't do a lot for me but that's because I'm forever spoiled by Long John Baldry's version, which is also fairly far removed from the original.
It's a nice psychedelic offering.
