UK TOP 100 SUMMARY AND REVIEW 17.01.25 #16
THE TOP TEN:
At 10 Sabrina's 'Bed Chem' returns top 10! Teddy is sandwiched at 9, and Gaga and Bruno are also stuck at 8. Teddy has 'The Door' at 7 while Myles Smith's 'Nice To Meet You' skyrockets out of overhit wonder status at 6. Chrystal's 'The Days' takes a gigantic sales jump as it stays put at 5. Gigi's Sailor Song also has a sales climb at 4. Heading to three, 'Messy' is still high and climbing on sales, and so are ROSÉ and Bruno at 2 with 'APT.' But heading to one and not slipping on any category (sales, downloads, and streams) is 'That's So True' by Gracie Abrams, as its 8th number one week is just holding it up.
NEW ENTRIES -
95. Tweaker - Gelo (5/10)
The US rapper G3 has had a breakthrough with 'Tweaker.' It sounds like he's tried to combine some old-school rap along with more autotune from the modern day, sounding like something Usher would fit on back in the day. It's quite different in sound compared to regular rap music, but it's just not good. It has a hook to capture a unique fanbase, which I respect, and I believe this has potential, but it's not for me.
92 - Real Man - Beabadoobee (7/10)
I really like this song and the clean feel that Bea's songs are so natural, but that's not what I want to talk about. The song is speaking about what it's like to be a "real man," and I just want to let anyone out there know that you don't have to be some super charmer because you're a man or someone who is expected to serve more. I see that the most upvoted comment on the song's comments on Genius reads, "F*ck men fr." It saddens me that a great song is only hugely respected due to a toxic movement and trending in feminism. Way to ruin an amazing song, feminism. ☕️ (And I know this'll ruffle some feathers, but I'm not scared of controversy.)
75 - BAILE INOLVIDABLE - Bad Bunny (9/10)
I really like how he used the traditional samba-like beat (I believe it's a samba) and high-pitched noises (Gonna be honest... I really can't find what they're called). But they sound AMAZING and bring a new layer to the track; it sounds traditional yet something to play in a club, and that's the incredible work Bad Bunny can do! A gem of a track, there's so much to unwrap here!
65 - NUEVAYOL - Bad Bunny (9/10)
Amazing! What an album start! It's creative and showcases Bunny's ability to create an earworm of a song while still keeping a level of uniqueness to the song, from voice changes to a pumping beat, all the way to his artistic roots. This is an absolute banger of a song! Highly recommended.
45 - DTMF - Bad Bunny (7/10)
Engaging and relevant, it really brings out a new side of the album.
44 - IT Girl - JADE (2.5/10)
Watch the music video for this and remember she's a grown woman. This sounds like something Charli XCX might match. Some call it a "Brat Bummer." In all seriousness, at least she's being experimental with her music. Trying new things is the best part here, but every single song seems to only cater to a specific audience and comes off as a burning pile of garbage. Once again, please get back with Little Mix—for your career's sake.
26 - Do I Wanna Know - Hozier (6/10)
Covering the Arctic Monkeys' 'Do I Wanna Know,' this was released in 2014 but retrended due to the BBC live version. The problem for me (like most cover versions) is that this lacks what made the original! I loved how they mastered the beat, and Hozier just doesn't do it like Arctic does.
