Bio
Edgy Las Vegas-based hard rock outfit Adelitas Way broke into the mainstream in 2009 with the song "Invincible," which appeared on numerous television spots for CSI Miami and served as the theme song for the weekly World Wrestling Entertainment Superstars show. Formed in the late 2000s by lead vocalist Rick DeJesus and lead guitarist Chris Iorio, the band (which also includes rhythm guitarist Keith Wallen, bassist Derek Johnston, and drummer Trevor Stafford) released its eponymous debut on Virgin Records in July 2009. The band's sophomore effort, Home School Valedictorian, arrived in Summer 2011.
Album Review
Home School Valedictorian, the Las Vegas-based modern rock outfit Adelitas Way's sophomore effort, polishes the already slick foundation on which the band built their 2009 debut. Bolstered by a radio-ready, appropriately bitter first single, âSick,â a movie trailer-ready, Killers-esque anthem in âAlive,â and a rote, vulnerable, midtempo ballad called âI Can Tell,â High School Valedictorian sounds precise, pained, and impeccable, which is really what modern rock is about, but one canât help feeling manipulated by the template-like accuracy of it all. Like any good pop record, the verse/chorus formula is applied liberally, and when the band sinks its teeth in, as they do on opener âThe Collapseâ itâs hard not to get wrapped up in the angst of it all. The hooks are catchy, the playing is tight, and the vision is grand, but the glassy familiarity of each move comes off like two computers playing chess with each other.
