THE GIVING TREE BAND "vacilador"

picked this one purely for the cover art, wasnt sure what to expect,
thought it may be something 'heavy' with the skulls on the cover but
was pleasantly surprised when i was the allmusic "sounds like..."
heading which said CSN!!!!!
not sure if that is entirely accurate, but there are some nice
folky,country sounds happening here...bit like Mumford's,
Avett Brothers in places, other times a bit like Dylan's
'lay lady lay' country period, other times i thought this sounds
like Waylon or Kris could do this song or that song...
good stuff from these guys from Chicago, yep thats right!,
non-country Chicago...maybe the wind blew the crap out of their ears
and they listened to good music LOL.
this one is now on my 'to buy list', i like it a lot
rating: 1.9
sorry, but its so new even allmusic hasnt got a review
for it as yet, neither has amazon.com!

allmusic biography:

Although formed in Yorkville, IL -- a small midwestern town located 40 miles west of Chicago -- the Giving Tree Band takes its cues from bluegrass, folk, Americana, and other southern traditions. Brothers Todd and Eric Fink launched the group in 2004, having previously played together in several jam bands. Looking to create a “timeless” sound that evoked an earlier era, the brothers shied away from electric guitars and focused on acoustic instruments instead, creating a down-home sound that made room for guitar, banjo, upright bass, violin, mandolin, dobro, dulcimer, and ukulele. They also expanded the group’s lineup to a whopping eight members, most of whom moved into the Fink household to begin a series of recording projects. The 33-track Unified Folk Theory appeared in 2007, marking the band’s self-produced debut, with Great Possessions following two years later.

I saw this cover on Amazon and was also intrigued by it, but because the skulls were sugar skulls, which made me think of Day of the Dead and perhaps Tex-Mex music. So I sampled it and now it is on my buy list. I liken it to Wood Brothers, Black Praire and Punch Brothers.
