What Are You Listening To?

KISS  "love gun"  cd  1977

their sixth of twenty, i own fourteen
i find a lot of their albums to be quite patchy and bulked out with filler
one cover on here, Crystals' "then he kissed me" retitled with 'she' in place of 'he'
thats pretty lame but its not the worst on here
love one track, like four others and dislike five
that gives a score of 1.6 which means
I DO NOT LIKE THIS ALBUM

fave is the title track:

"BTO....Bachman,Turner,Overweight
They were big in the 70s....for five minutes,on a Saturday,after lunch..."  -  Me 2014.

BILLY THORPE  "tangier"  cd  2010

aussie rocker, history lesson:
huge here through the 60's and early 70's before he ended up in a psych hospital
ended up in moving to the US where he wrote scores for movies and tv shows
show included War of the Worlds, Star Trek: The Next Generation, Columbo, Eight Is Enough and Hard Time on Planet Earth  plus others before returning to Australia and working on numerous projects with Mick Fleetwood.
so on with this album"
most of the album was recorded by time he passed away in 2007 and Mick Fleetwood completed the album for release in 2010.
album is a colelction of songs Thorpe wrote during his visits/trekking through Morocco.
some proper rock on here other tracks contain traditional Moroccan sounds..
if i made a list of my favourite 100 albums of all time this would be on that list for sure
album scores 2.7 which means
I LOVE THIS ALBUM

a couple of tracks from the album:

the album opener which set the whole vibe up:  Marrakesh

the soft rock 'single':   Billy Thorpe - Since You've Been Gone

"BTO....Bachman,Turner,Overweight
They were big in the 70s....for five minutes,on a Saturday,after lunch..."  -  Me 2014.

JOHN COUGAR MELLENCAMP  "scarecrow"  cd/vinyl 1985

his eighth of whatever, i own several
classic rock, americana, heartland-rock on here
songs about the land, and trials and tribulations of those who live on it
at least i can hear this without his political on stage rantings....
still very good after all these years, a testament to quality songwriting IMO
album scores 2.5 from me which means
I LOVE THIS ALBUM

lets go for this fist pumping anthem:

"BTO....Bachman,Turner,Overweight
They were big in the 70s....for five minutes,on a Saturday,after lunch..."  -  Me 2014.

JEFF BUCKLEY  "grace" cd/vinyl 1994

a revisit
his one and only official release prior to his accidental death
it would have been very interesting to see how he progressed musically had he lived
but its one of those unanswerable questions i guess
anyway, as i said it is a very good album, standout track is his angelic cover of Leonard Cohen's "hallelujah"
album would rank 2.3 from me which means...
I LIKE THIS ALBUM

After the reminder, I had to listen to Steve Rothery's The Ghosts of Pripyat. Fabulous album - so well conceived. This one always ends up being my favourite track ... "White Pass" ...

DAVID CROSBY  "if i could only remember my name" cd  1971

his debut solo album
never know whether this fits better in folk, soft rock or here
anyway, my least favourite member of "the big four"
some good rock on here, some good acoustic type songs
several that are good enough to have been called CSN/CSNY songs IMO
overall though
of the four debut solo albums by each member this one comes in third place for me
album scores 2.1 which means
I LIKE THIS ALBUM

favourite:

RED CLAY STRAYS "grateful" cd 2026

another recent 206 new release purchase

from Mobile, Alabama
third album, only thing im familiar with
southern rock, gospel, 1950s rock, spiritual in places too
dude has a voice on par with Jerry Lee Lewis for me but soulful at the same time
not going to reveal my score at this stage, you can wait until my EOY albums ranking list
but i will say it was a surprising impressive money well spent purchase

title track with its gospel/spiritual vibe

"BTO....Bachman,Turner,Overweight
They were big in the 70s....for five minutes,on a Saturday,after lunch..."  -  Me 2014.

KING CRIMSON  "in the court of the crimson king" vinyl  1969

a birthday gift from Lynne
debut album
i am familiar with Greg Lake and Robert Fripp through various things
King Crimson was a blank slate for me, no idea what to expect except it is early Prog.
hearing some Moody Blues in places, bits and pieces of other Proggies in others, i guess this was the template for those who followed
played the album twice today and really enjoyed it
side 1 is fantastic IMO, three tracks and love them all
side 2 not so much, two tracks, the first was too arty in places, the second track was good
overall the album scores 2.3 which means
I LIKE THIS ALBUM

could pick any from side one but i chose this one:

"BTO....Bachman,Turner,Overweight
They were big in the 70s....for five minutes,on a Saturday,after lunch..."  -  Me 2014.
