Wondered if anyone was going to listen to this - I might give it a try. Not a fan but I did get sucked in by "The Whippoorwill" some time back - good lyrics, I thought, good song. Ever so laid back ...
Some of said lyrics ...
Going through life, the righteous way
The only way so the preacher would say
You put me on the Jericho road
Barefoot and smiling, standing there by the piano
Well I dreamed I heard that whippoorwill sing
Yeah she sang my song and called me by name
Yeah I hung my head in shame, Oh yeah
You sewed my years together like a patchwork quilt
Your Bougainvillea's bloom, It'll never wilt
The lessons I remember and some that I forgot
Are precious and pure now, like the one honeysuckle drop

To be quite honest I did not know they even existed until Ruby's post. Read the 'deaths' thread allright. Where or what is a whippoorwill??!!??
Curiosity got the better of me so I did a search. Turns out it's a kind of bird. One with wings.

Speaking of birds with distinctive calls, there is a violet turaco drifting aimlessly around the area – it’s an escaped caged bird and is calling for a mate or for a fellow turaco, at least! Desperately sad. They come from west Africa so it will be forever singing with no hope of a response, although 'singing' might be a bit of a stretch in this instance - very weird sound! Akin to a turkey, I fondly imagine.

I’ve heard it several times and saw it the other day – they like to sit inside foliage, high up, and are not easy to spot – it was a chance sighting. I can’t get it out of my mind, poor thing. Not in favour of people keeping exotic creatures or caging them at all unless under exceptional circumstances – for the animal’s sake.

Sorry to hear about the drummer! R.I.P.

Oh I've met a few birds with distinctive calls. Their calls are usually along the lines of 'how much do you earn', 'go and clean the dishes for once' or my favourite sound - 'when are you going to get off your backside and finish painting the house'...
When I hear these calls I pretend to be deaf.
