Before you rush off to find someone in the music industry, watch the documentary on Netflix about the band 'Thirty Seconds to Mars'. Their dear delightful record company decided to sue them for 30 million despite never having paid them a dime from their albums. The music industry in it's old form is completely washed up simply because people do not want to pay for music anymore. Until people value music, and they don't anymore, the industry will always be in turmoil. It's an unsustainable business model in it's current form. Live music is the only avenue left for musicians to generate income. Recorded music has become a 'free' commodity. People think nothing of paying a couple of dollars for a bottle of water, which they will consume in minutes, but are shocked that a musician charges the same amount for an album which they can consume for life. It's all about the value a person places on something. And the record companies do not look after their artists anymore - they just bleed them dry. Be very careful about wanting to get connected with the industry. It's a real dog-eat-dog world. And the artist always gets screwed. Watch the documentary! They even charge their artists for packaging the product even if it is only in digital download form. I dabble with bits of music myself but there is no way in hell I would ever sign over the copyright to my work, however humble it may be, to any recording company. Not ever. It's a no-win situation.

The solution - do it all yourself - marketing, recording - the whole bang shooting match. You will sell far less but what you make is yours. A lot of musicians are using the crowdfunding model to get their albums done.
