Thom Yorke’s new single – some are referring to it as a new ‘song’ which it’s not – it’s instrumental. I get the idea behind it – pulsing rhythm representing life, a ticking clock, etc., but frankly, without the images, it’s just boring; no texture, not much variation – devoid of anything enticing. Sure he got the icy bit right, but even with the pictures, it doesn’t really say much IMHO and I think the music should make sense on its own. How disappointing – the opportunity to create something magical and inspiring to go along with those amazing Greenpeace shots, and the idea of preserving the sanctity of the Antarctic wilderness has been missed somehow – or is it me who’s being negative and missing something? Almost feels like he’s just cashing in on a trend. What a waste. They should’ve called Jerome …

it will be interesting to read Jerome's take on the piece of music above...
personally, I didn't like it, was never a fan of him or his band and this does nothing to change my opinion...
that said, its a brilliant video.

First of all - thx for the vote of confidence Ruby. I am humbled. With regards to the track - the video is stunning but the music lacks a direction. I love swirling ambient keyboards but I also like a tune or theme to go with it. Something to hang your hat on. And that bass line becomes a bit monotonous for my taste. It could have been something a lot better than what it ultimately turned out to be. He did get the keyboard sound just right but on it's own it's not enough. OK Radiohead fans - you can stone me to death now.
Here's the guy who knows how to do this stuff. Listen to just how simple the melody line is - and how effective. A master.

Watch the footage in this video - don't like the music at all but the footage is stunning!

^^Yes - great footage.
Lol - my first stop after listing to Thom Yorke's track was Vangelis's
Antartica score.
(Still think Frank Bossert's Eureka -
Shackleton's Voyage is very well done in terms of a musical interpretation of an astonishing piece of history, and that particular part of the planet, but that is a whole 'nother story and is not comparing apples with apples!
