New Age music Has taken a Toll.

Music of the days in my opinion has gone a backwards road. What we consider good music now adays in various forms of metal is punk riffs, short tracks, and breakdowns. Really depresses me, cuz Im more interested in Melodic Rythym, melodic and speed solos, basically music that flows. Like classical has set build ups flowing constantly keeping you aware that it can lead wherever without boundaries. In conclusion I believe that bands now a days aim toward a simple progression, repetitive verses and chorus', and meaningless song lyrics. Unless theyre singing about good times or bad they get no message across. I mean Im a music junkie, I love stuff from the Beatles to Zeppelin, Joe Satriani, Steve Vai. With these artists how do we get bands that...well I cant name any crappy bands cuz I dont keep them in mind but theres many crappy bands that are" emo", "Hardcore", I cant even name any other styles cuz they must just suck so badly.

I think it is a generational thing: I'm old enough to remember how people greeted The Beatles , The Stones, Bob Dylan, Pink Floyd, The Sex Pistols and so on. Everyone said that the latest incarnation of popular music had no melodies, childish lyrics, was sensationalist , and many more interesting and paparazzi-like comments were made...................However, I think it has always been true that the next generation likes to rebel against the last and shock its parents ( "Every generation shots a hero up the pop charts ........Paul Simon").......this has become harder to do as there have been more generations attempting to do this as time goes on and the level to which one must go to achieve this has changed...

"Come gather 'round people
Wherever you roam
And admit that the waters
Around you have grown
And accept it that soon
You'll be drenched to the bone.
If your time to you
Is worth savin'
Then you better start swimmin'
Or you'll sink like a stone
For the times they are a-changing" Bob Dylan

.................however, time will always be the judge..................most people believed that The Beatles would be luck if the lasted two years ( Even The Beatles themselves doubted their ability to last)

So as I said, time will tell but your comments are not new and I believe every generation believes that the current new generation has lost their way.Cool
Nice to be able to go back to trust and friendship!!!!!!!!!

It's a mixed up sensation this being alive
Oh! it wears a man down into the ground
It's the strangest elation
I can't describe it
Oh it leaves a man weary
It makes a man frown.
.............................Chris Simpson ( "Mixed Up Sensations" 1975 Martin's Cafe )

Furthermore, there are plenty of current bands out there that fulfill your requirements, you just haven't looked in the right place.

In fact, you may even have to adapt your tastes to find the right artists but to suggest there's no quality music being made today is just plain wrong.

This is exactly what I was thinking. There are worlds of great music out there. And you have a tool that makes it easy to find - the internet. If you rely on old dying media like the radio and print you'll struggle to find what you're looking for.

The internet is even a hard source... I mean to really appreciate good music especially from the influences you are looking at we have to search properly and I think the best way is through a local record store and the such because they do happen to know a lot about music, especially good local music.

There's a thought.
Got some time on your hands? Or wanna check out new (or old) music? Come have a read - http://www.wecalleditmusic.com/

Okay, maybe some people have trouble knowing where or how to look for information on music on the internet. There are hundreds (thousands?) of blogs, music magazines, and forums like this one on the internet catering to every style of music. That's thousands or millions of people giving you information. A good local record store may have a dozen employees? Maybe less.

I live in a big city and the best local record store more often than not does not have the release I'm looking for nor have they even heard of it. But my taste is pretty out there.

This is just my experience. Others may have better luck. The OP named some big names in music. A local store probably can help them out. I'm speaking in a broader sense.

The fact that you can't name any crappy bands surely substantiates your hypothesis...

And chances are that they don't know jack about good music. Don't hesitate to ask me instead. I'm here to guide you, folks.
